A hand written tag? Most likely an inventory tag from the dealer. Any key codes come on a plastic card and that is just the cut code, not the code for the immobilizer.

Mate, Because your scooter is a non-transponder you would have received a small plastic tag with your digits. What may be missing from your tag is a "W" which is the prefix that Giobert/Zadi uses for the locks our scooters use.

Most other models should come with a code card. If you wish, PM me a picture of your key and i will give you the code you need.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

The smartest thing you can do re. a spare key for your Vespa is to ship you red key to JimH who posted directly above me. He made spares for four Vespa's that we have owned and it's done correctly and at a good price with great service. He has helped hundreds (if not thousands) of people on this forum with his key services.

Or send the key to JimH, who will sell you a key for the best price around, clone it if that is needed and cut it for free. Just let him know you are an MV member when placing your order.

Am I missing something here? You have a working key and the key code for a non-immobilizer scooter. Any competent locksmith with the right blank can make a duplicate key for you in a few moments. (not that I doubt jimh's ability to handle the job well and properly - it is just that this doesn't seem like a problem that would require you to mail off your only working key)

1+ I sent my brown key (Master) to JimH and had only my original blue key in possession...got everything done and returned to short order.

kdude make a couple of duplicates...one to ride and one for easy access as your backup and then keep orignal locked away.

Not true, most seem to have too wide a cutting bit for the Piaggio keys and it ruins them.
And he needs the key, which JimH has the best price and service hands down.

Per Jim's post...PM him (below)

Most other models should come with a code card. If you wish, PM me a picture of your key and i will give you the code you need.

Note: Many of our local Vespa group have used Jim...no problems.

Sorry, I meant for cloning my own key, per your last post about only having the blue key,but I'm confusing things.

I'm not sure where you are getting this information but my local Vespa dealer simply takes blanks (standard or blue electronic) down to a local locksmith here in town and gets them cut. He says there is no problem doing this and he must be correct as he had a duplicate blue key made for me which works fine. The whole problem arises when you want to duplicate the red key, or if you have lost the red key, for scooters with immobilizers. Then you need someone with special knowledge and skills. And, yes, the electronic key blanks are expensive but we aren't talking about an electronic key in this case. The keys for the S are a standard double cut key.
