Hi Everyone,
Just picked up a used 2005 ET4 150 Vespa off of somebody down the road. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and considering there aren't any Vespa dealers on this island, Im pretty psyched about it. I've never owned a Vespa before but I immediately fell in love with it after my first ride. So i got it home and started searching around for more information about this sweet ride when i came upon the fact that there should have been a red key included...unfortunately this wasn't the case. Turns out the guy i bought it from got it from someone on another Island who never supplied him with the red key.. hes been using it for 3 years on one key unaware of the possibility that his bike would become useless were he to lose it. In anycase, the hopes of me finding the master key at this point are slim so Im trying to figure out my options. Ive read that I can have the key cloned so I can at least have a back up. Ive also read that it might be possible to decode my CDI and create a new master key, is this even an option? Ive also read about another company (Malossi?) making a CDI which no longer requires special keys. With all these options im not sure which direction i should head. Is it worth it in the long run to replace the CDI immobilizer and get new keys or should i feel safe enough just cloning a few keys and keeping them hidden away for safe keeping? Any help would be much appreciated.
