I have previously fitted a Givi D502S screen to my 400.
It is far better than the OE but I still get a blast of cold air to my face.

Has anyone got any experience with a Laminar Lip fitted to the Givi D502 ?
Laminar have a P1211S designed for the OE Piaggio screen and I am wondering if it would be suitable for my Givi screen.

Laminar are unable to offer any real info on that.

I am also inquiring from Givi if their AF504 "Airflow" is suitable for their D502, but still waiting for a reply.

Having previously fitted and discarded a Piaggio "mid' height screen, i am somewhat cautious before spending too much more, unless I can be certain it will work. That screen was too high and dangerous when wet.

Any advice please.
Thanks.

I fitted a Laminar to my Givi D501ST windscreen.

I don't know the difference between this and your D502 model.

Here's the Laminar model I bought, it works fine:

Product Name: C2111C LIP for Can-Am Motorcycles Spyder 2007-ON
Clear
Item#: C2111C
Unit Price: $84.00

I would call Laminar, they are helpful.

Thank you Turbojav for your reply.

Unfortunately, your D501ST screen is very different in shape and size (19.5 inches higher) than my D502.

I asked this question somewhere else and have not had a reply; but if you projected a horizontal line back from the top of your L Lip, where would it be in relation to your face/chest etc.
I am trying to find out how high a L Lip needs to be to keep the wind off my face.

I am temped to get a LL to fit the low OE screen (which I still have in storeage) in the hope that it will fit the Givi D502. The shape and profile does not seem all that different.

Another option is to ditch the Givi screen and get the LL to fit to the OE Paiggio screen. However, I don't think I have seen any reports of the effectiveness of a LL on the low OE screen on a 250/400. Most of the discussion seems t have been in relation to the 500.

I tried the Laminar Lip with the stock windscreen and it didn't work for me - it got the airstream off my chest, but directed it up under my chin. A medium Fabbri was not high enough. A tall Fabbri worked well, but I looked through it and had concerns about rain, fogging, etc.

Laminar LLC recommends this height: "After years of experimentation we have found for best protection and comfort a rider should sit on his motorcycle, looking over top the shield (and LIP if installed) and see the pavement about 40 feet in front." ( http://www.laminarlip.com/proddc.php ) I have found this to be about right - about the length of two parked cars.

My solution was to cut down a tall Fabbri to 27.5" tall using a Dremel tool with a diamond cutting disk. That moved the airstream to the top of my helmet. I am 5'11" tall with a 31" inseam.

I recently had my seat customized, raising it somewhat. This necessitated my buying a new Fabbri tall screen, which I cut down 1.5". This is working out well.

I now have my previous cut down screen for sale in the For Sale section of the forum.

Hope this helps.

D501ST screen without LL = horiz line would hit around my mouth

with LL = would hit slightly above my nose, the wind hits the top of my helmet

The LL is adjustable though, and with a second set of adhesive discs could be set higher.

I have now purchased a Laminar Lip, the model to fit the standard low OE screen on my 400.

However, I have fitted it to my Givi D502 mid-size screen. The Givi screen is about 5 or 6 inches (13-15 cm) taller than the OE screen.

Both screens have a similar horizontal profile. However, the Laminar lip did not sit all that flat on either screen, at least where the pads were fitted.

I straightened the Laminar lip a little with a some pressure and it now fits well to the Givi screen.

I removed the screen to fit the Laminar lip because the temperature was far lower that the indicated fitting temperature and I had to do the installation inside my house. In actual fact, I think this was easier than fitting it in-situ.

The end result: I am pleased with the result and it has lifted the air flow from my face, which is what I wanted.

PS: For anyone from Australian wanting to buy a Laminar Lip:
I dealt with Laminar direct with no problem and about a week delivery. I had emailed the Australian agent but they did not reply. Further more, their advertised price was about A$30 dearer than direct from Laminar including the US postage.

I used a second set of adhesive pads to move the Lip to it's highest position. I'm looking through, rather than above the Lip, but so far it has not been a problem.

Wind noise is greatly reduced at highway speed, no more buffeting. Of course with the record-setting heat this summer in the Northeast U.S., sometimes you want a little wind.

I have about 50% of the Lip above the screen with the top pads near the edge. The top is just below eye level, no need to look through it.

Works for me.

I had thought of adding attachment pads but no need so far. If they were closer to the side edge of the Lip they would have seated better.
