Congratulations to my long-time friend and MV member Randy "Turkman" Turk, who completed his Iron Butt Association ride yesterday covering 1000 (+) miles in 24 hours (-) on his Vespa GTS 250ie.

Randy rode from Olympia Washington, to Weed California, back to Olympia Washington in his Iron Butt attempt, starting at 3 am Weds., and returning home some 22 or so hours later.

The Iron Butt Association has yet to officialize this, that can take up to 3 months, but Randy has ALL the necessary documentation required and I have no doubt he will receive all the typical accolades, televison interviews, dancing girls, endorsement deals, movie-offers, and other trappings that go with the Iron Butt-by-Vespa ride he just completed

Seriously...good job Randy and congratulations!

Congrats! That's like 10 circles on my island in 24 hours.

Couldn't be done here - traffic jams and local drivers two abreast running at speeds as high as 22mph on the freeway would move the time frame required to at least 48 hours! Laughing emoticon

Congrats, Randy!

I just did an IronButt LM1000 (ride around Lake Michigan) this past Friday. I wasn't on a Vespa, though.

Outstanding!! The fact that this was done on a Vespa is really an accomplishment. Is the first "Saddlesore" 1000 done on a Vespa?

Unfortunately no. See 1031.4 Miles in 18 hours and 40 minutes

But still a great job. Congrats, Randy!

Awesome, congrats!

A ModernBuddy member recently completed his (and get certified) on a 150.

On any scoot, that's a long ass time in the saddle and some serious riding! No easy feat.

Not sure if to congratulate or not.

Am surprised, with all the emphasis on safety on this forum, of the response.

be very concerned at 4 hours in the saddle, very worried at 8; any more I am surprised that they can still function, reasonably.

(sorry to be the party pooper; just very concerned as fatigue RM is part of my job)

Thankfully, the sanctioning body http://www.ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm stresses safety, and fatigue issues in their rules and such....

If Randy did it without an AirHawk cushion, double kudos to him!

Twin, on my trip to Colorado and back, I did 10 8-hour-plus days (several of which were 10 hours plus), and many of them were at temps of 95 degrees and over. As long as I kept properly hydrated, fatigue was not really a problem. Dehydration will wear you out and cause fuzzy thinking faster than anything else, in my experience.

Well done Turk for doing 1000 miles on a Scooter. That´s hard going.

For my birthday 4 years ago my mate suggested doing that. I rode a 1986 GPZ600r.

We ended up hitting a treble.

John O Groates to Lands End.

1000 miles 24 hours.

1500 miles 36 hours.

Won´t be doing that again Crying or Very sad emoticon

Really? I spent twice that long in the saddle last Monday just getting myself lost. Razz emoticon
Still, your point that road fatigue is something that should be taken seriously when riding is valid. However, some basic experience and planning on the part of the rider can get you through just fine. My own personal record is 16 hours...far from what Turkman did...but I find a 4 hour trip can be done quite easily. Everybody is different of course, and each person should ride within their personal comfort level.
