Hi again! Now that the electrical issues seem to be resolved with my P200, I'm moving on to the next issue: The choke. Right now, the choke cable from the carb is hanging loose, and I just pull it by hand, but this isn't a very good long-term solution... It's a stranded cable, unlike the single-wire cable I think I remember from my previous P-125.....So, what's the preferred method here? Is there a cable that will allow me to use the knob below the fuel tap?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Joe

There's a couple ways you can go with this. If you are running without a cowl you can get the cool flip choke from dellorto and flip it manually.

Otherwise, you can modify an old throttle cable to work with the choke knob. Just cut it so only the throttle nipple remains, and thread it back through the existing choke outer cable. Once it pokes out the choke tube, you can cut it short and fold it through the choke lever and push it back into the body. May take a little bit of experimentation to get the correct length, but I think those chokes have an adjuster too, right? So you can probably do the final adjustment with that.

If you don't have a throttle cable to work with, any stranded cable will work you just need to crimp something on the end that will activate the choke plunger.

Thanks for the reply! I'm hoping to have the cowl in place, so the flip-lever isn't going to be suitable... The stranded cable that's there now comes from the carb, but has no outer sheath... I think I understand what you're saying, but maybe it'll be clearer to me after I take out the gas tank and have a look at what's inside the body behind the hole where the choke knob goes... Seems like I'm going to need some sort of outer sheath over the choke cable, regardless of what else I do... and I bet there's supposed to be a grommet of some sort where the choke cable enters the body of the scooter, yes?

Thanks again,

Joe

Yes, you will need a cable outer. You can either buy a standard choke cable and use only the outer, or just cut a length of outer from somewhere else. If it's easier to find you can just use a bicycle cable and trim it to suit... sometimes you can get a good end that will fit the choke plunger that way.

Whatever you use it should enter the body through the same grommet as the throttle cable.

not to interrupt, hp gives very sound advice

i found that my local high end bicycle shops carry really nice cables with a couple different sized nipples

take in your old one if you have

Thanks, guys!
Thanks, I appreciate the pointers! The cable I've got is already attached at the carb end, and it's just about 2 feet of stranded cable that's sort of pinched between the cowl and the body at the moment. Functional, but certainly not pretty! Would a standard choke cable work here, just using the outer sheath? I'm unclear on what the mechanism looks like inside the body, where the choke control knob goes... Is there a tube there that the knob passes thru?

Thanks again!

Joe

P.S.
Heading out on vacation tomorrow, but when we get back, I'll pull the tank and have a look; I promise!
