GREAT JOB! Nice color choices -- looks really sweet. I bet it's like having a whole new scoot.

Len - it looks like you're doing the paint yourself -- tell us about the setup (equipment etc) and the process.

Jess,

I chose to do the paint myself because it's something I've always wanted to try, and it's only a P series, so if I mess it up it's not like I've ruined an ss90 or something.

I don't have any experience mixing paint & hardeners, and cleaning spray rigs, so I decided to buy automotive paint (PPG Vanilla White, and Mail Blue) custom loaded in spray cans with the solvents & hardeners. Tower Paint of Wisconsin will do this with any paint.

I was quoted anywhere from $800 to $1000 to paint the scooter by others, so when I got the quote for $250 for all the paint materials (and I have to admit, I overbought...should have been more like $200) it seemed like a user friendly project for a newbie like me.

I got etching primer and filler primers that would be compatible with the PPG paint at Napa Auto Parts, plus the sandpapers and a little body filler.

I spent about two days on body work and prep, and spent some time fiddling around with design (striping & such.)

The actual spraying went pretty smooth and fairly quick. Then came wet sanding and clear coating, and some more wet sanding. After the final wet sand, I used Finesse-It II to polish the parts, and then added 2 coats of wax. I'm happy with the results, of course as it is with anything you do yourself, I know where every small imperfection is

Today I bought a light brown PX saddle for the scooter, because I think it will match much better than the black one. I'll post a pic of it later.

I would do this project all over again, because I learned so much about the scooter in the process.

Nice Job Len!
Welcome to the world of vintage scooter restoration, I could totaly appreciate the work you have done to your scoot! I have restored a few "P" series scooters and am now in the middle of a new project myself, I hope to see you riding it around soon.

BTW I think you have just inspired me to paint my scoot another color.

Hi Eric,

Yep, I bought Matt & Patty's ET2, it's a blast to ride around town on short trips. I'm amazed at the torque that little 70cc engine has!

A big thanks to Matt & Patty...

"Mail blue", huh? That is really a great shade of blue. You've done a beautiful job on the scoot! Can't wait to see your next project.
