Good News - My scooters got to spend the night in the house last night.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Bad News - My house got flooded this morning. I brought the scooters into the house so that I could put the wifes car in the garage (higher ground)

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Good News - I was able to save the Mini by jacking it up. It was kinda hard doing it blind in 10+ inches of water.

Bad News - The wifes Civic is a loss and so is the Exporer.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Good News - The Scooters are saved

Bad News - Sorry Bobby but I won't be able to by that GTS250 as I don't think I have flood insurance and will have to replace all the flooring in my house and more as the water got 1/2 inch deep throughout the house.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Good News - The water has receded 7 inches (now ony 1 foot deep in my garage and not in the house anymore.

Bad News - More rain is comming.

So you ask how I can make humor of this: it is either cry or laugh and I'm tired of crying as that doesn't help.

Aww man, that sucks. Sorry to hear it, Curt. We're really glad you're okay, but writing off two cars, a floor, and who knows what else is really hard.

Are there threats of more flooding in your area?

Ouch. At least the scooters and the mini survived.

Did the water get past the door sills and into the other two cars? They might be OK.

Years ago, when I still lived with parents, I came downstairs in the middle of night and heard what sounded like a faucet running. When I came around the corner, the kitchen floor was shiny. It was carpeted. Turned out that a 50¢ washer had let go in the line to the dishwasher and let water out, flooding the entire lower level floor, soaking through and drenching everything in the basement.

Hope things work out OK for you, Curt.

Rain is forcasted for the next 3 days. The cars are insured and will be taken care of but I don't think I have a flood policy so I'm waiting for Farmers Ins. to call me back and give me the bad news. Water is out of the garage now so I must get back to work with the high presure washer. 2 inchs thick of mud.

Just read that I80 is closed at Truckee for the next 48+ hours due to a landslide.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

Glad you are ok and that your scooters survived.

I had never thought of jacking up the vehicles. I would think there might be a business in the manufacture of floor jacks to raise cars a foot or two to get out of flood waters....

The mini was the only one without insurance as I just got it for my wife for Christmas. I wont get full coverage on it as they would't pay what it's worth. So the first thing I did when I saw it rising was to figure out how to jack it up.

Curt,
Man, I'm so sorry to hear about your flooding. Our street had 3-4 feet of standing water in it last night, but luckily it only came about 3/4 of the way up people's lawns.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

This is what we saw when we drove from Napa to Sac on I-80. Notice the West bound lanes are completely full of water and it is waterfalling over the concrete center divide into the East bound lanes. Luckily we got off on frontage roads and were able to keep moving because it was a parking lot for miles.

Wow!! Sorry to hear the bad news Curt! I hope the insurance company treats you right.
My uncle lost a house a few years ago to a flood, re-built in a different area.
Smart thinking on the scoots and Mini, Beale.

I reaaly feel for you. I was pissed when the melting snow on my roof somehow found a way into the house and ripped on the attic and into my bedroom. But that was just a few liters of water...

I hope you at least get some money of the insurance. Glad the scoots are ok.

flood ins.
man thats so screwed up to see your home in all that water. its a longshot but check with the city or county for flood releif, you pay taxes for sewer and storm drainage and the county should have maintained the system so this should not have happened. if you live in a flood plane then your lender would have required that you have a flood rider on your policy, start at city hall, public works. its been raining hard but its been worse before so your storm drains should function. if you boughht your home recently then you would have had a disclosure called a natural hazard notice and a report from your title co. called a property disclosure. your lender would have been alerted too when this was reveiwed by them. its part of title search. the seller of the home that sold it to you would have also had to diclose that the area was prone to flooding. if you used an agent to buy then they would have had to discover it and advise you accordingly. I sincerly hope you and your family are ok first and foremost.
and finally, I want to read that you got your GTS!

I'm really sorry to hear about the flooding. That is just terrible. Smart thinking on getting some of your unique possesions out of harms way. I have my doubts that I would have the clarity of mind to do that.

Hey Curt!

I'm sorry to hear about the flooding! Early Saturday I heard that things were starting to get out of control out in you and Matt's neck of the woods That damage looks pretty extensive!

I'm happy to know that you have family nearby that can help...

God bless you and your wife. She must be a saint. I tried picturing me rolling my scoots thru the front door and telling my wife I was going to park them in the living room...NOT!! More likely I'd be sleeping with them in the garage. Then again, I didn't buy my wife a nifty Mini for Christmas.

Good luck, and let us know how things turn out.

One of those scoots is the wife's and one was a visiting sister in-laws. So she had NO problem with me bringing them into the living room. On the other hand we weren't bringing them in to protect them but to put her car into the garage to protect it. Well doing so protected the scoots, if we wouldn't have done so the scoots and car all would have been lost. Oh the wife just saw what I was writing and she said to say that the scoots are always welcome in the house.

Here is a picture of my lake front property just before it crested. Just 1 inch lower and I would have been in much better shape.

There is always someone in a better or worse situation then yourself. I'm much happy that I'm in my shoes then in Matt's right now. Although he wasn't affected by the flood, Matt too is dealing with major issues. I will not go into details as that is up to Matt to share detail but I will say that his son is very sick. Our thoughts and prayers need to be directed towards Matt and his family.
