We started just after the sun rose keeping in mind we were experiencing a hot spell in northern New Mexico. From ABQ we traveled the Turquoise Trail http://www.turquoisetrail.org/ through Madrid to Santa Fe and up to Espanola where we fueled up and proceeded to Taos where we stopped and confirmed our route at the Taos visitor center.
The Enchanted Circle http://enchantedcircle.org/ starts in Taos and heads to Angle Fire http://www.angelfirenm.com/ which is one third of the way on the Enchanted Circle.
From Angle Fire we visited the Viet Nam Memorial Museum http://angelfirememorial.com/ around ten miles further on the circle
and continued past Eagles Nest http://www.eaglenest.org/ where sits a lake which often freezes over during winter. Eagles Nest sits around 8200 feet but we continue an incline to Bob Cat pass which is around 8900 feet. The scooters slowed down a little climbing the incline, which was the highest point of our trip but we soon drop down to Red River http://redriver.org/. We stop in Red River for a snack and refresh. From Red River we headed to the town of Questa and proceeded to the Rio Grande Gorge and then into Taos where we fueled up again before our final ride of the day into Santa Fe.
In Santa Fe we stayed at the La Fonda Hotel http://www.lafondasantafe.com/, we checked in the hotel at 17:00 just in time to shower and make our 17:30 dinner reservation at the hotel patio restaurant.
After dinner we strolled around town and watch a couple of Jazz bands performing in the Plaza for the New Mexico Jazz Festival http://www.newmexicojazzfestival.org/.
Too tired to do much more we fell asleep early and in the morning returned via the Turquoise Trail getting home just before it heated back up in Albuquerque. Altogether we traveled around four hundred miles, over 300 miles the first day.
