On the way back we spent the night in Santa Fe, thinking back on it now we should have broken the trip down in halves because it was a long and hot trip the first day. See my short summary and be sure to check the links to this wonderful trip.
I took a few pictures:

We started just after the sun rose keeping in mind we were experiencing a hot spell in northern New Mexico. From ABQ we traveled the Turquoise Trail http://www.turquoisetrail.org/ through Madrid to Santa Fe and up to Espanola where we fueled up and proceeded to Taos where we stopped and confirmed our route at the Taos visitor center. The Enchanted Circle http://enchantedcircle.org/ starts in Taos and heads to Angle Fire http://www.angelfirenm.com/ which is one third of the way on the Enchanted Circle.

From Angle Fire we visited the Viet Nam Memorial Museum http://angelfirememorial.com/ around ten miles further on the circle

and continued past Eagles Nest http://www.eaglenest.org/ where sits a lake which often freezes over during winter. Eagles Nest sits around 8200 feet but we continue an incline to Bob Cat pass which is around 8900 feet. The scooters slowed down a little climbing the incline, which was the highest point of our trip but we soon drop down to Red River http://redriver.org/. We stop in Red River for a snack and refresh. From Red River we headed to the town of Questa and proceeded to the Rio Grande Gorge and then into Taos where we fueled up again before our final ride of the day into Santa Fe.

In Santa Fe we stayed at the La Fonda Hotel http://www.lafondasantafe.com/, we checked in the hotel at 17:00 just in time to shower and make our 17:30 dinner reservation at the hotel patio restaurant.

After dinner we strolled around town and watch a couple of Jazz bands performing in the Plaza for the New Mexico Jazz Festival http://www.newmexicojazzfestival.org/.

Too tired to do much more we fell asleep early and in the morning returned via the Turquoise Trail getting home just before it heated back up in Albuquerque. Altogether we traveled around four hundred miles, over 300 miles the first day.

Wow. Thanks for the ride. It brought back some nice memories of the couple years I lived a little south of Tijeras. Rode up and down Hwy 14 to Santa Fe many times. The area north and west of Santa Fe is especially nice, being in the mountains and up in elevation. I have been on your route in cage only, scoots must have been great.
Thanks

Thank you for posting those beautiful pictures!

I have relatives in Albuquerque,
so I've been wondering what it'd be like to ride from there to Taos

Did you manage to avoid the multi-lane highways the whole way?
The back roads seem like they'd be great fun!

OneEyedJack;
You are welcome - NM has some great places, they are just spread all about. - The Tijeras area is great, going either North or South.

TurtleGT;
We avoid freeway riding as much as possible, but, sometimes it's un-avoidable, or just too inconvenient to avoid. That was the case traveling from Santa Fe to Taos that is between Santa Fe and Pojoaque, for about 15 miles we traveled on the freeways, HWY 84/285. Speed limits are 65 mph but most people on that stretch seem to have a purpose and 65 mph would make you about the slowest person. Need to be careful on that stretch because it is often very windy, also, we were at over 7,000 ft at that point and our GTS's were close to limit, but, we had a little reserve; I'm sure your GT200 will be fine; it's just a little hairy. Otherwise all the other roads are very scooter friendly - we even had some very rough looking (not weekender type) Harley riders, about 30 in the pack, all greeted us with friendly smiles, waves and horns.

Did a very similar trip last year (in a car. grrr).

Madrid is a speck when you compare it to the movie "Wild Hogs." I have that same picture outside of "maggies."

New Mexico is one of my favorite places to visit. It is a destination on my "kids are out of college and on their own, I'm going on a cross country scooter trip" trip.

Thanks for the pics and it looks like you had a great time!

Wild Hogs is a guilty pleasure movie!

Coincidentally, I think that was the very freeway I would have liked to avoid
(the one you need to take to get from Santa Fe to Los Alamos)

Ah well,
unless someone has started renting big scooters in Albuquerque since last I looked,
that wouldn't be my biggest problem
