A couple are playing 'I spy' in the kitchen of their home somewhere in Yorkshire.
'I spy with my little eye something beginning with T' said the husband.
"Tea pot said the wife." 'Nay Lass!'
"Tea towel." 'Nay Lass!'
"Toaster." 'Nay Lass!' he said, drumming his fingers on the work top.
"Oh I don't know" she said at long last "I give in"
'It's easy' he said. 'It's t'oven!'

Lancashire accents are no better. When I lived in Bury, I heard this, "P'w'thole".

Apparently, it meant "Close the door".

As in. "Put the wood in the hole".

Scary thing is - I can understand it!

I had a flat-mate at college who was from Durham. He had the heaviest accent - plus he mumbled. Conversations went a bit like this.

Dale: Mmrumbl mrumble grum
Me: Yes, Dale.
Dale No, MRRMBLM MUMBBFTG GRMU
Me: OK, No Dale.
Dale: Mmmg Hrmph.

After about two semesters, I could make out what he as saying. I lost track of him when I left college. Maybe he became a speech therapist!
