So I took the scoot out for a ride the other day and opened it up to see what it coud do. I have read in some threads that the speedo is off, max speed is approx 77mph. One thread listed he had his at 145kph. I cant get mine past 125kph. Why is there such a variance in these models. Im only 170lbs sitting behind a fabbri wind screen going down a slight hill even and it just wont do it??? Any ideas.

lots of variables here, low tire pressure, when was the last belt and roller change, Also spark plug change? Has the throttle body ever been cleaned?

A bigger windscreen can make a big difference in top speed.
Besides, 77 mph = about 125kph, so you have reached your top speed. Razz emoticon

Only 1500 original miles on it. Changed to an iridium plug a 600mile service plus have the taller windscreen. Have more then enough tire pressure, just checked yesterday. New air filter as well. Any ideas? And yes top speed as it reads but actuall speed is about 10% less from what im hearing.

well depending on how you broke it in during the first 100-200 miles when new this can also effect top speed. if you were gentle and easy well it will be a little less in Top speed, if you rode it like you stole it it would be a little faster. now granted it still is not fully brake in and scoots will get a few mph fast the more miles you get on them. Also to get a good reading you'll need to ride beside a car or use a GPS. stock speedo units can also vary a few mph from scoot to scoot.

Yea i was pretty easy on it. I did open it up once or twice for a couple min but nothing more then that. On the commute home from the dealership I had to jump on the interstate with less then 10 miles on the scoot. Dont imagine that could have hurt it any?

nope wouldn't hurt it a bit. running them in hard and fast is good as long as you don't just hold it WOT for 50 miles at a time. run it up to max then let er come back down to 30-40 mph then run er up again and down. never holding at 1 speed for periods of time like 1-2 miles constant.

Yup thats exactly how i did it, Became such a habit i still find myself doing it. Did you see the video of that 250 cruising at 145kph with no upgrades. Any explanation for this? Whoever made that video can chime in as well. I would love to see that on my scoot but really dont think that will ever be possible. Right?

Where you ride is a major difference. On the freeway with other traffic you will see a 5 to 10 mph increase in top speed over lightly traveled road.

77 on your speedometer is closer to 70 true as the speedometer is optimistic. I got over 80 gps on my 250 on the freeway a few times but struggled to get to 70 around home.

A car tire does slow my 250 gearing down by 500 rpm. Maybe I should see what I can get now, except where I live now the wind is always a factor. Sometimes going against the wind here I'm lucky to keep 65 mph pinned !
