Has anyone else changed their mirrors on a GTS 250/300?

I find the stock round mirrors obnoxiously high and dislike the round shape. Maybe I'm just too use to riding previous brands that had more rectangular shaped mirrors & were lower. The stock round ones remind me of all the round mirrors that use to be on older cars. Now every car has rectangular mirrors. From what I remember on other bikes, the rectangular shape showed more of the width of the road behind me and didn't look like bug antennas that I always seem to bump when walking around the bike, and then have to readjust.

Am I the only one with this complaint or am I missing some critical safety feature in the reason for the retro-round design. Thanks.

Honestly i have to admit that they are the best (functional) mirrors I have ever had on any of my 15+ bikes.

I know they are big and don't look the best but damn do they work.

Take a look at this thread.

Thanks. You reminded me that what I DO like is that the mirrors are more in the direct line of sight when driving. I never liked handle bar END mirrors as you have to divert your gaze too much from the road ahead AND they do make the handle bars wider, which sometimes is critical when lane splitting & for me parking, where I have to squeeze past a center pole in my garage & my car to park the scoot.

Best mirrors I've seen are those on a SYM RV250 - they're mounted on the frame, out front just a slight side glance from looking str8 down the road, the glass mirrors adjust on the inside like a modern car mirror & the whole arm can be folded in & snapped back without having to readjust the mirror. But if they could be fitted, that would totally wreck the look of a Vespa.

I was thinking of a chrome version of what's pictured below, something in between stock & END mirrors but if remember, the GTS doesn't have a standard 8mm mount for their mirrors. I could be wrong but I outta town away from my bike so have to check later. One reason I'm on line rather than out riding <g>

Seems like the mirrors you are looking for are the mirrors off a Vespa S

Heres an old thread with a lot of good options. The mirrors I recommend here have become a favorite at our shop, especially for lane splitting.

THere's always the Reevu helmet which has a rear-view mirror built into the helmet that can supplement the deficiencies of mirrors that are too close to see directly behind you. There's a review of the helmet on webbikeworld here. MV reviews have been favorable but the few I've read said you still need traditional mirrors - not sure why. Do an MV search on reevu and you'll find them quickly. Its an intriguing concept.

I pasted an interesting graphic from the article below.

I have rectangular mirrors on my GT. They are standard standard 10mm motorcycle mirrors so I also used an Emgo Universal 10mm to 8mm Mirror Adapter.

I split lanes every day on a crazy commute. Haven't tagged a car's rear-view with these mirrors yet.

If you give them a call, they can ship them to you super fast (if you can't get to Sherman Oaks). I'm in the Sacramento area... These guys are great to deal with.

I vote "yes" on the above mirrors! Vespa Sherman Oaks set me up with these at the recommendation of Drew and the gang. I LOVE them for lane splitting!
I think they look 100% better than the stock mirrors, too.

Great visibility NEXT to you... but not behind you.. so I always feel a bit vulnerable sitting at a light. And when I ride with friends, I have to work to keep them in my sights unless they ride "in" my mirrors.

Trade offs... I think worth it. I love those mirrors! Call VSO, they'll send them to you.

And here's what they look like with a prima flyscreen installed too.

Robyn, I've found that if I adjust at least one of my mirrors so that at my regular riding position, I can see my arm in half the mirror, a quick elbow tuck will allow me to see directly behind me. It's a technique that sportbike riders adapt. After a week or two, it's completely natural.
