I guess that picture of that steely-eyed gent on his magnificent steed stayed in my mind, because something just occurred to me this morning. Is that a Gene Kranz style vest? I've been looking at them for the coming season.

YYD, that is a "Cardi Collection," purchased (like the entire ensemble) from Men's Wearhouse. It does indeed bear more than a passing resemblence to what Ed Harris wore in "Apollo 13," although that was not the intention.

P.S. you know the saying "but the book was much better?" If you haven't already done so, read Jim Lovell's "Lost Moon,"* the book on which "Apollo 13" was based. Unusually, the book is not better than the movie per se (not because it is a poor book, but simply because the movie was so outstanding), but quite different, covering a lot of fascinating details that would never fit into a movie.

*The book's title was changed to "Apollo 13" after the movie was released, a decision I disagree with. So you may find it under either title.
