Well, Nearly! How about a vintage red GTS300?

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

OK OK. Its a 2007 GTS250 with a painted GTS300 horn cover, and a Malossi 268cc cylinder and head.

It also has a matching, home made headlight visor, a Piaggio emblem on the front in red and silver, eco-leather grips, leather bindings on the brake levers, black mirrors, GT200 saddle and rack, topbox, floor mat, Audicator, burglar alarm, Polini variator, Malossi clutch springs -

and, above all, it is beautiful!

(especially with the topbox off)

They are French-made FAR mirrors, obtained from Gus Sutton (Vespaspares) in the UK.

Did I forget to mention the airbox mod?

Anyway, I have a new secret mod that improves take-off. But I am not advertising this one - too much controversy.

Some time back I had my belt rubbing, with a Polini variator and standard rollers. So I fitted that extra "Fuzzy" spacer inside the variator and that solved it. When I fitted the Malossi kit, I found the engine was overrevving, so I installed heavier rollers. Then there was a terrible squeal, which went away when I revved the engine or when I removed the transmission cover. Turned out the belt was riding too high in the clutch, and rubbing on a support just behind the clutch.

The original rollers were 21x17. The new ones 20x17. So between the extra spacer and the smaller rollers, the belt was able to ride deeper in the variator, and consequently higher in the clutch. Result - a higher pulley ratio, and very much better pull-off despite having heavier rollers!

NB I got rid of the squeal in true backyard mechanic fashion by filing down the stanchion in the transmission cover.

Agreed. Black or vintage red wheels, with chrome or silver rims.
And an aftermarket exhaust that isn't noisy! The PM with a DB killer is still way too noisy for me.
