you guys ever here of a nolan N30 helmet?

I want to buy a standard black helmet. nothing to flashy. this nolan I saw a white stripe that looked pretty cool. on this Nolan N30, i see pics of it and the face shield is down. Does it go up or can u take it off? I can only see front pictures of it. Amazon has them for a little over $100.

oh, and also, how the hell do i know my size? I have a 7 1/4 fitted hat size.

Like I said, I am just going around town. I am a school teacher and I will be traveling back and forth and some riding just around town.

Thanks guys!

Yes....the shield will flip up and be removeable/replaceable.
As for sizing....most helmet manufacturers have a sizing guide. But you should go and try it on for size first hand. You may get lucky with a perfect fit mail order helmet....but what you think looks good may turn out to be an uncomfortable fit. And a helmet is something you want to be comfortable.

Just my opinion

The Nolan N30 is a good helmet. My wife wears one because I can't convince her to go to a full face.

The 3/4 helmets like the N30 are a little more forgiving size-wise than full or modular models. But head circumference is only one measure; head shape is another. Nolans tend to have a round/slightly round shape. If you're buying online, make sure it's a retailer with a good return or exchange policy.

Oddly, I've seen two different size charts for the Nolans!

I like that Nolan helmet and could have gotten one cheap where I used to work. The only problem was it just didn't fit my head properly. I guess I just have a weird head. Razz emoticon

Looks like the N30-popular as it is-is being replaced by the N20 and N32. The N32 has the extra external shaded visor (the "Vision Protection System") that I had on a Nolan and hated. Just got in the way most of the time. Otherwise the helmet was great.

Also, that may mean closeout prices on N30s. I know my local dealer has them marked down; others may as well.

+1

Different helmets fit different shaped heads, well, differently. You want to make sure you've got the proper fit and a size chart and measuring tape will only give you a close approximation, IMHO. And if you take a large from one manufacturer, don't assume that you'll take a large from all of them. My advice is to go to a shop to try some on. (As an aside, one of our local cycle shops will now match online prices because he was finding that people were coming in to use his helmets to find their size, then going home and ordering online.)

As for just riding around town...your head can meet the pavement there just as readily as anywhere else you might ride. You don't want to go cheap on a helmet unless you have no other option.

If you haven't read it already, check out the Wiki article on Helmets
