I'm officially the proud owner of a Red Vespa GTS 250ie. Picked it up used this morning.

I've really enjoyed the resources here. Thanks to all who contribute.

One question:
What gear/tools do you suggest I keep under the seat at all times?

While new to this forum as well as being a new Vespa owner myself, I found that an "allen" or "L" wrench makes a nice addition to the tool kit. It allowes one to access the brake fluid reservoir under the handle bar covers. Additionally, (and heaven forbid) if you were to ever drop your scoot, you might need to remove the handlebar cover to tighten the nut that secures the mirrors. It's always nice to be prepared.

good thinking 99. Admittedly I'm yet to actually look at the toolkit that comes with the Vespa but had thought (or perhaps assumed) that an allen key was included in the set.

I would also add a mobile phone & the phone number of a reliable m/c & scooter transporter.

Hildebrant,

Yes, you could just call someone to give you a tow if you need it, so having Roadside Assistance is something we all should have (whether we're 2-wheeler OR car people) -- and I certainly have that on my vehicles -- but I also carry a small 12v air pump (or CO2 cylinders) and a quality tire-repair kit under the seat in case I want (or need) to fix a flat tire and drive on rather than wait for a tow (if the problem is only a flat and the scooter still runs).

But a small 12v air pump (and tire guage of course!) with you allows you to top off your tire pressure more easily, too. They have some small pumps cyclists use...you might look into one of those.

Enjoy your "new" scooter!

Happy riding...

+1 for the tire gauge. I forgot that I had added that to my own kit as well. Good call.

I'm a self-reliant kinda guy, so I've extensively supplemented the joke of a stock "tool kit" with a motorcycle-style folding T-wrench with sockets, combination wrenches, Allen wrenches, a small adjustable wrench, a multi-tool that includes needle-nosed pliers, and an assortment of "band-aids" such as baling wire and wire ties, as well as spare fuses and common sizes of nuts and bolts. It all fits in a small zippered tool roll that I keep in one side of the glove compartment.

I also always carry a tire plugging kit with CO2 inflator cartridges, small flashlight, first-aid kit, and tire gauge. When I'm touring, I carry an even more extensive tool kit.

I don't always carry this much stuff, but often I'll carry most of the above except folding t-wrench (have to look into that!). I have a stubby ratchet (that's what... oh, nevermind...).

Also on my "always carry" list:
Small clip-on LED light with flexible neck. Great for attaching to the body when you need to peek up in some cranny.
Small Mag Lite.
Loose change.
A microfiber towel and a shop rag.
Small spray bottle of glass/plastic cleaner.

I keep the screwdriver, the MagLite and a small adjustable wrench in a pouch in my glovebox (Vecro'd to the inside of the door). Rest goes in the pet carrier.

On my "sometimes carry" list:
Portable 12V tire inflator.

Amazing... it even works when you're drunk!

As for a under the seat supply kit, I like to have sockets, a wrench handle, an adjustable wrench/spanner, a 6 way screwdriver, some wire, the tire gauge, spare gas in the correct container, a rag, a microfiber cloth, some bungies, a cargo net and other items that seem to end up in there. I know I am over prepared for most riders but once a Boy Scout, always one. Be Prepared.

Tire repair kit w/C02 cartridges (am going to order the mini-pump that was posted not too long ago).

Jumper cables

In addition to your stock tool kit: Allen wrenches (one for the brake resevoir cap removal + another one for a modification "L" brackets for the tap in screws beneath handle bar cover) and 6" adjustable wrench (for mirror adjustment...this is very handy)

First Aid Kit + some canned saline (wound wash), 4x4's gauze bandages, comforming [rolled bandages] or ACE bandage (to hold 4x4's in place, bandaids)

Fuses and spare bulbs (stick these in a large medicine bottle) then wrap some duct tape around the bottle

Few $ for gas, etc.

10" parachute cord (2 each)...to tie versus tape....know your knots and lashing.

150 lumen LED multi mini-flashlight (low, high and strobe).

Insurance card with number for tow.

I think that's about it...

Eric, this is the Motion Pro set I have:

High-quality, small, light, and has a nice little zipper case.

Rain suit -- or at least a rain jacket -- is nice to have, depending on your climate.

+1 on the small towel -- microfiber or not. Comes in mighty handy.

I carry a big, yellow lock, sometimes with a heavy chain. It's nice to know the scoot will probably still be there when I come back.

Sun glasses and sun screen -- OK, maybe that's a Hawaii thing.

Gloves. If you ever dump it, your hands will thank you.

Tote bag. I have one I customized, adding short cord loops to hang on the bag hook. The loops are just the right length so the floorboard tunnel takes the weight of what's in the bag and the hook just keeps it all upright and on board,

Think about adding a rack and top case. They will make your scoot incredibly more practical. Between the under-seat bin, tote bag on the bag hook and the Vespa top case, I can haul five day's groceries, no problem.

Sunscreen & water, microfiber towel, multi tool, extra cash, rain gear, bungie net, shopping bag (small crushable & expandable sort) are in all of our scoots. Touring add in a tire plug kit and allen wrench set.

Phone charger is also in each scoot, just in case.
