GTS Exhaust Bushing

For the life of me I cant get the clamp and bushing to completely seal. I have put the clamp back where the slots begin on the muffler and it leaked around the bushing. I pulled the clamp a bit back exposing the end of the slots in the muffler and I get some but not nearly as much of a leak but there is some exhaust coming out the slots. What am I doing wrong?

I'm to a point where I'm considering some header tape to go around the slots. Has anyone tried this?

Yes I have the clamp positioned just the way its shown. The bushing is back far enough to cover the slots and the clamp is tightened to spec. I still get some exhaust gases coming out the slots

You might have damaged it on installation then. Did you splay the ends of the pipe before dropping the new one in place? Look like you're going to have to take the exhaust off again to examine it. Unless you haven't tightened it enough.

Forget the 'spec' tightening torque - as you'll be tightening against slightly splayed out flanges, so the 'spec' becomes meaningless.

Just do up 'tight' so no gases leak.

Jim...soooo...again my comment on previous post (comment) of using 15 ft lbs is meaningless...just "tighten" that clamp up so it doesn't leak...no problem.

By the way, I did pick up that tool from Motorsport to splay out the flanges of the gasket end of the exhaust. So it forms a reverse taper and then insert the other end of exhaust pipe.

Question: Do you have the gasket in place when you "splay" out the end of the exhaust pipe?

Common sense tells me yes since you "splay" out the opening (pipe and gasket)...but the cautious side of me says I could damage the gasket. Your thoughts please....Thanks!
