As a newbie MP3 500 owner I need everyone's help here--which windshield do you have & please give pros & cons. If you've tried more than one shield, I'd love seeing feedback on that, too.

I'm sure there are many old posts about this, but right now I'm using ancient browser & dial-up service.....zzzzzzzz. If u don't mind listing your windshield info it'd help me alot.

Just received my Fabbri shield from PJ's Parts--not gonna be tall enuff, I can already tell w/out installing it. Is the Piaggio shield worth the $500? OH boy......

I was spoiled by the Clearview wider/taller shield I had on my Burgman Executive (that I traded in for my MP3), but I want the "honeymoon" to go on longer than this! Haaa.

Thanks for all your help--u guys are the MP3 gurus!

I have the Givi. It's not perfect, but it is worth the price.

fabbri cheapo
just cut and pasted fabbri shield, mv shows bohemian posting details about problems 16 months ago, maybe they've fixed them by now? I would endorse my 220 dollar tinted shield from scootertrap. and the guy rinning the place seems to frequent these forums, so you may be able to get some info about size, height width with regards to your stature from him.
I am 5'9" and the shield is tinted, I do look over the top, but I get a nice little pocket at highway speed of air flow. I do have a topbox and it does complete the pocket. I ride everyday and it rains maybe 20% of the time, but I stay dry unless 1- the wind is coming in from the side pushing the rain at me, then I'm wet on one side for a little bit. 2 - the rain is monsoon, in that case, I'll wear the raincoat. 3 - my shoulders do get wet as they are not in the pocket from the shield.
but, I do usually just ride through whatever cloud is dumping at the time and end up drying off before I get to the end of my commute.

had the Fabbi for the 500 and sent back the piece of junk. Do not install and send back in the original box and I hope you get full credit. I had to argue with PJ for 2 weeks before I finally got my refund. I have the Givi and like it alot. Scootertrap sells them shipped to you for $220. I am 6'1" and I see about 2-3 inches over the top and to me that is perfect as I don't like looking thru a shield. The Givi is easy enough to install also. There is another shield called a Bullster and they do look nice , They kinda wrap around the stock defelctor and then come up to looks to be the same height of the givi. Those come in clear, smoked and maybe some other colors as well. The OEM piaggio aftermarket one is pricy but from all reports it functions good. The shield is one price then you have to buy the mounting brackets as well, total price around $600.

As has been lamented endlessly on this forum, the screen options for a /500 are rather limited. IMHO, you will not come up with a perfect out-of-the-box solution. Some people really like the Givis, others like the Fab (although it still does not qualify as a true "plug-n-play" because for some bizarre reason you have to do some template cutting); but for both of those, there are equal or greater numbers that hdislike them. BTW I have both a Givi and a laminar lip for sale cheap cheap cheap, but you have to find your own mount since I used my mount in my own custom contraption. Which leads me to...

...the people who seem consistently pleased with their windscreen protection appear to be those that customized a solution. I am tremendously happy with my cruiser windscreen, and perhaps now I would do it again because I know all of the pitfalls to avoid (posted elsewhere). There have been several very clever and by all accounts extremely successful windscreen mods posted here. I am not by any means saying that buying a fab/givi screen will disappoint, just that based on feedback here (and with the Givi, my own experience) there is a non-negligible probability that you will be unhappy with the results.

The /400 of course has far more off-the-shelf options.

I cannot seem to find a U.S. dealer for that damned mounting kit! Without it, the only thing it's good for is as a replacement plastic, or maybe somebody who wants a Lip and would be willing to pay a few extra bucks for a rainy-day replacement screen while they're at it. I'm afraid if I post it for sale, all I'll get are "why are you selling this if I can't get a mount for it" comments.

There's some information on this thread.

Objective Windscreen Discussion (Post 967813)

My personal experience is that with the Givi I have too much wind noise. I bot a Laminar LIP 14" universal part. I have not installed it yet. I taped it on for a couple of laps on the slab (I-79) and still got too much wind noise. Maybe I should just get a new helmet. Wha? emoticon I noticed that I sit very straight upright when I'm riding. That would make a difference.

Piaggio offers a better selection for the 250 and 400.

Thanks Everyone!
The amount of good info here is amazing--thanks to all of u for posting what u have, what u think, and especially those pix! Gonna install that Fabbri screen today, surely better than nothing til I decide how much to spend for #2. As a newbie to MP3, the 70-mile ride home from my dealer (Seacoast Sport Cycle in Derry NH) was great except for windblast & increasingly uncomfy seat. I was amazed to learn a specialty auto upholsterer lives few miles up the road from me! He's working on "dishing" out the stock seat, as well as moving the passenger bump back a bit so I have more room.

The Piaggio screen looks most like what I've used on past bikes, similar shape & coverage. Always worn open-faced helmets, too....in fact, here in NH u don't legally have to WEAR a helmet. Most guys wear "do-wraps" on their heads here. But it's "LIVE FREE OR DIE", right?

Again, a BIG THANKS to u all! This website is incredible.
