Gday.
I've Googled for a few days now for a picture of the engine mounting/rear suspension set-up of the Nexus, to no avail.
Do any members here have a link to a pic or their own pics of this rear suspension arrangement?
Mainly interested in the mid-naughties 500. I understand it has the engine solid mounted to the frame, and CVT/wheel only on suspension, is that correct? If so would suit my bumpy goat-track highways OK, and the 15L tank would help a lot too.

I have a cunning plan Baldric......... 8)

The engine is NOT mounted to the frame on the Nexus, but the main pivot point is the otherwise empty hole near the upper middle of the engine as seen on any other 400/500 engine, as opposed to the front lower pivot hole.

There is a single adjustable shock, and the whole engine and transmission is much better balanced - there's almost as much unsprung weight in front of the Nexus pivot point as there is behind, so yes, the ride is far better on uneven roads.

AFAIK, the GP800 is the only Piaggio scooter with the engine mounted in the frame.

Thanks Jim.
So then (for the OCD like me among us!), the engine is therefore below the pivot point, not above like the X-Evo, etc?
And also, does that then place a higher weight percentage of the engine to the front of the pivot point, giving a sort-of balance factor around the pivot point, to reduce the effective sprung weight?
A big maxi with handling would be nice, but I'm not sold on the Tmax or Burg, nice rides, but prefer singles and Italian "character".

Yes, yes, and I agree.

Have a look at the Nexus manuals:
