on the way into work this morning when i squeezed the rear brake lever there was no resistance and the brake didn't engage. i pumped the lever a few times and it started working again. later on the same thing happened again. any ideas on what the problem could be? if it's simply low brake fluid wouldn't the symptoms be different, eg., slowly lose pressure and not a complete loss of pressure one minute and then back to normal the next.

lastly, are the braking systems completely independent? i can get by until i get it in the shop with one intermittent brake but not two.

Careful!
The early GT200's had a problem with the Exhaust System. There is a Donut shaped device that can be damaged or not properly seated when the "TWO PIECE" Exhaust System is removed for any reason.

The Donut then allows hot Exhaust Gases to melt / burn the Rear Brake Line and you only have the Front to rely on. There are several OLD Threads on this issue in this Forum that will describe it better than I can.

It happened to me.

Piaggio denied it for a while.

It was real.

Be careful

Best regards,

Mike Lynch

If the rear brake line had melted you wouldn't be able to pump up the pressure in the system. You simply have air in the line. Your brakes need bleeding.

Vespa recommends you replace the brake fluid every two years (along with the antifreeze), so if you're overdue consider having both brakes done.
