Hi Everyone - Don't know if this has been mentioned before (couldnt find anything in a quick search), but it seems the Red Arrows (the Royal Air Force's Air Acrobatics Team), will be riding a Vespa 125S around the UK for charity! The charities are good ones guys (Help for Heroes etc) and every penny counts!
Quote:
The pilots from the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows and 4 of the Fighter Pilots from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will take part in a sponsored scooter ride across the entire length of mainland UK in support of a number of charities.

In their BAE Systems Hawk aircraft the Red Arrows pilots would cover the distance in a little over an hour but the riders will travel on Vespa 125S scooters, taking 4 days to complete the 1000 mile journey at the end of the 2010 Display Season.

Just thought this would be a good opportunity for the more charitable members of the forum to give to a worthy course with a Vespa at it's heart!

Scooters, aeroplanes and the colour red - several of my favourite things! I'll certainly bung them a quid or two, and hope to see the scooters at an air show near me soon.

Nice way to raise some money, and the scooter looks great! I hope that they do well.

I like that the scooter comes with an "official" MOD decal! I would have put a white stripe down the side of the cowl, myself.

What wouldn't I give to see them formation riding!

Off to sponsor them right now...

Thanks for the heads up!

Mark

Edited to add... Note to michael_h, it just so happens that the "Mod target" is also the Royal Air Force's roundel marking and has been carried on British military aircraft for nearly a century. Very fitting indeed!

These scoots can only be ridden on the motorway (as per itinerary) without 'L' plates. Presumably then, all riders have passed their bike test. So I don't get why Vespa didn't give them 250cc or 300cc models, instead of 125s? I'm sure these guys can handle that kind of power!

An 800+ mile trip at 60mph flat out is going to be tough. Motorway speed limit is 70mph.
