I am going to upgrade my Allstate front spring to a heavy duty spring. I am looking for tips and suggestions on how to remove and replace.[/img]

Allstate
why not replace the fork with one with a dampener ? my friend is thinking about doing this. he rides an allstate with one of those single seats - I took it for a spin and the thing just bounces like crazy. Replacing the spring might do something, but the bounce will still be there.

You don't say what your ultimate objective is...

If you have one ride and you want it to be smoother, feel more controllable, then start looking for a VBB fork and swap yours out. (I did this when I had just the '60 Allstate VNB)

If you want a vintage machine all original, but a little better ride, then a heavy duty spring is fine. (I did this too, before I put in the VBB fork)

Now, I am planning to reinstall the VNB pogo-stick because I have several rides to choose from and I want an all original Allstate.

BTW, that is me in my avatar pic in '61 riding my first '60 Allstate. I loved it.

I have thought about changing the fork and I may at sometime. For now I am going to try the stiffer spring and I understand that it will not be as good or the same as changing to a fork with a dampener.

Yes I also have a 09 Stella. I enjoy the crude charm of the Allstate I just want to somewhat quiet the loud bang of the front end on the unavoidable bumps.

I have a spring and I am going to put it in. I am seeking advice from someone who has done this before so I can remove and replace as quick and easy as possible.

hey nevermind
Wow that was easy! I took the wheel off for more room. I removed the stock spring. I fixed the heavy duty spring to the lower mount. Hooked the top mount to the spring and used a pry bar to guide the stud on the top mount through the hole in the mounting tab on the fork. The ride is much firmer less sloppy and no more banging! Thanks for nothing, Eric
