Hey

My GT200 has started something new, which only happens when it is very hot. When starting out under a lot of torque
(up hill, or with a passenger) I get a rumbling sound from by the transmission.

The bike only has about 2400 miles, not near time for a new belt. Maybe it's just loose?

What should I check for, or don't bother and bring it to the overpriced Vespa dealer who will probably fix it correctly.

BTW, no longer under Vespa warranty.

THANKS

OK, I've heard of that. Is this where I have to open the cover, smooth out the clutch surface, and remove any material in there?

Some folks have success with just removing the shiny Vespa badge on the transmission cover and spraying in the small holes, either brake cleaner, or just compressed air while turing the rear tire.

Thanks.

Would I use compressed air from like a computer dusting can, or from a gas station tire pump?

Any of the above would likely work.

And if it doesn't, you may indeed need to check if the belt is worn

Mine have been going about that quickly
due to the heat and a lot of stop & go (around town) riding

I doubt that the volume of air from a can of computer air spray would do the trick. Then again you often can't find the right nozzle at your average gas station either.

Could be wherever you take your car for service, assuming you have one, would air-blast the area for you. Then hit it with the brake cleaner using the small tube to get up inside there.

Yes, this is common and yes it happens more often in hotter weather. The fix is pretty easy and there are pics in the Wiki on how to remove the transmission cover. There are alternatives without cover removal.
Try a search on 'Clutch grind', there are many many posts.
Here's some info from a while back...

The $10 solution is an absolute winner and I have just had a 'shudder free' month following his advice.

The answer is a can of 'Brakleen'.

It works brilliantly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
