Modern Vespa

Greetings from Texas.

So I've been lurking around this site for a while, and told myself that I'd make a profile as soon as i get my vespa. Just put a deposit on an all Black GTS 250 so im almost there, and HERE IAM! Even tough I'm 19 , i have been wanting one for years. I would of gotten one sooner but the weather in NJ wouldn't allow it ( more like it would be worth it). So now that im going to college in TX, I've decided to go for it!

Welcome from a fellow ex-Jersey-ite. (Used to live in Lake Hopatcong/Landing area). Enjoy the scoot, but get a helmet too! You'll want to protect that college brain of yours.

Welcome. Glad you finally mad the plunge.
But I've got to tell you, NJ is fine for scootering at least 9 months out of the year. I dont ride much mid-late December through late February or early March, but the rest of the year is fine. After all, thats what coats are for.

Cool beans, dude! A word of advice: Strongly resist letting your college pals "borrow it for the afternoon". I promise you, sooner or later (probably sooner), you will be sorry. They'll think you're a dick, but you will have the scooter, so who cares?

Excuses:

1. You don't have a MC license
2. My insurance won't cover you
3. You've got to be kidding!
4. Only if I can borrow your girlfriend (Porsche) for the afternoon.
5. If you leave a $5500 deposit.

Bear in mind that if you ever lend it out, you are also lending your insurance.

Have a great time, and drive cautiously until you have some miles under your belt, then drive cautiously some more.

Congrats on the purchase. I would recommend a SOLID sturdy kock for it

My son lent his to a buddy "who has an 1800" on the second day of ownership, and the kid dropped it and did $800 damages.

Still not fixed over a year later because the kid won't pay for the repair.

Aloha and welcome to the forum. As others have said don't let people ride it unless your prepared to live with them damaging it. Even adults will crash so it's not just a "kid" thing. Oh and get a good lock setup if your living on campus. scooters are a thing that will get taken in a heartbeat on a campus. Would also get a cover for it. College pranksters etc. Enjoy that new scooter of yours and show us some pics when you can. Ride safe

Did you take a Motorcycle safety course yet?

You just missed the AmeriVespa gathering in San Antonio. Next year it will be in New Orleans. It is a great way to meet lots of MV members.
Find a scooter club near you and go on rides with them. It is a whole different riding experience when you ride with a group.

Listen to oldswimcoach and others.

Few people will take the responsibility to repair damage they caused or buy the damaged scoot so you can get a new one.
