Are we talking about classic slow moving zombies or modern fast-movers as seen in 28 days later?
For the former then range is an advantage, so a small 4-stroke will get you furthest on the limited fuel supply. If you need a quick get away then I'll stick with my 300 and fit knives to the wheels, chariot-style!! |

Able to keep rolling when the highway ends, drive over rubble without damage, ford water crossings, etc. In the event of some apocalyptic event, I'd leave my scooters in the garage ( were it still standing) and grab my DR650. the very same DR 350 - so i think there should be plenty of spare-parts out there... ![]() |

A solar powered URAL. We have a guy who owns one down the street from me and i like it but not the 14k price tag. Oddly enough when i went searching for a pic there is a shop called Royal Enfield in Chicago that sells Urals,Genuine,Piaggio, and vespa's Now that's a combination I forgot i had a pic of the one here

Honda CT90 FTW.
![]() Lightweight. Thing comes stock with a spare gas tank. 4-stroke. Indestructible engine. Points. Made for off-roading. Very high MPG. 55mph. 8-speed clutchless transmission(4 high gears for road, 4 low for off-road). Can ford through streams. (air intake and exhaust are high, at seat level) Lots of storage/bungee space. Has button on carb for high elevation fuel mixture. Crashbars and brush plate to protect engine. This was literally made for hunting/camping/outdoors excursions. It doesn't get any better! (except perhaps a CT110, but that has CDI) |

Old-school solution for errant pedestrians. Works great on 21st century Zombies. Recommend a tall gutscreen to keep the splatter off your natties.

owlcore wrote: pedal powered is the way to go... No scooter or motorcycle would be a good long-term solution - however knowing how to ride both will be a good pre-apocalypse plan for when you have to steal or borrow one to make a getaway or a quick run somewhere. You are simply too exposed on either - all it takes is one zombie standing in your way and you're off the bike and your brain is gone. A decent 4-wheel drive is the way to go. Not a pussy SUV, but something with high ground clearance and torque. Something made for off-road driving in severe wilderness areas, which is where you will want to be. An old FJ-40 landcruiser (6 cyl) would be my choice - they are all but indestructable, their parts are bulletproof, and no computers to go rotten on you. Steal the hard-top version. Of course the noise from driving one of these would likely attract Zombies (World War Z) so it would only be used to get to where you need to hole up, or make a rapid escape in case your position were about to be overrun so I would ultimately defer, as mentioned previously, to a horse or mule for your food scavenging and wood scavenging forays. Also: learn to shoot - learn to make your own reloads and be prepared to kill everyone: women, children, etc in order to survive. |

I would do the horse I admit. Eats a variety of plant matter, can and will bite and run things over, automatically hauls butt when danger threatens, self-repairs, and I figure the local barn will have many horses left ownerless so I can round up a pack string for breeding more and spares. We survived for several millenia with them as our primary mode of transport. Plus they can handle some serious terrain.

I hope I won't be around by then ... but since most people seem to be terrified that nuclear war may some day be a reality, I think I would hedge my bets against a nuclear winter.
