Hello, I'm a total newb and this is my first post on here. I'm looking at buying a 76 Rally 200, the guy said the vin starts with VSE3T, however when I look the vin up for the Rally's the prefix is suppose to be VSE1T. Can anyone tell me what's up, maybe it was made in different location? Thanks for any info, like I said, I'm new and don't want to get stuck buying a "bodge" when I want a classic. Thanks again

A Rally frame should be stamped VSE1T.

likely just some dirt smudging the appearance. take a rag with gasoline to the whole area and make sure. sometimes the stamp is not as good as it could have been.

edit: also get a pic for us to see and we can get you good advice. for these old bikes its easy to spot a good or bad deal. the more pictures the more accurate it can be.

and i would think if it looks like a rally then the guy just cant read that digit correctly. the vin number will state model and year, but if you can read most of the digits and see the bike in question you can certainly be assured of the model and year.

i would care more about the state of affairs of the bike to be of more importance than the year. cause a good runner is more important to me then if it is missing a cowl or fender.

i don't know about that, have you tried to source a rally cowl? There's $250 right there. I would happily clean the carb or crack the cases given the choice

at least the bike will run down the road without a cowl.
