Our school year starts tomorrow with opening day, and we greet the students on Tuesday. I begin what I like to call my KMA year. This means I am entering year 27, which is the minimum for retirement in KY. I plan to hang around for a few more, but, if they don't play nice, I might just decide to throw in the towel. My wife retired after 30 years this past term, and she's having a ball. I still enjoy working with the students, so I will put off making a decision until March. After all, I just got the kids to stop referring to my GTS as a moped.

I go back on Sept 7. 1 day of Professional Development. Students come back on Wed Sept 8th, then we get the next 2 days off for the Jewish holidays. Kicks in to full gear Sept 13th (we work till June 29th, so don't feel bad)
I'm on a 55/25 retirement schedule. 55 years old with 25 years of service and you get full pension and benefits. I'll have 26 years in at 55. Looking forward to having the retirement option at 55.

I am going to miss sleeping in until 7AM or 8AM, but it's nice to be getting back into the groove and seeing the kids. There are one or two students I think about over the summer and hope things are going well.
School days, school days!

Luckily I like my work and on days feel as though I can make a difference.
It's funny, I have a neighbor who is a retired teacher. She's always seems happiest when my vacations are coming to an end; she makes comments about how I must be sad to see vacation coming to an end. I mess her up all the time when I tell her I can't complain. I love the vacations for sure, but I also like the job. She must have been miserable because she retired only to work another job, but she is never happy.
