Wrong hardware. Did you get one from the hardware store or the stock tapered one?

I'm not sure I understand what this means, but the proper headset pinch bolt is not available from a hardware store. It has a very specific shape, which is probably why you're feeling the play.

It might work OK for a while, or it might force you to torque down on it so much that you end up cracking the collar of your headset which wouldn't be recoverable.

I'd be heading over to your local scooter shop (or finding someone who has a spare) to get the proper bolt asap.

Yeah your headset bolt should look like this:

If it doesn't chances are someone at some point swapped it out with whatever they had.

Exactly. It will work in a pinch but will either require breaking your headset, or it will fail and slip when you need it most meaning your bars will be facing one way and your tire the other.

Someone screwed me!!!!!!! Hence the reason why I have had play in my headset since day one... Nothing major but if u put some strength in it you could twist it... Could this also be the reason for front end wobble!?

Always use the proper bolts. Bolts from hardware stores are not hardened. This could cause big time troubles.
