just got my first vespa 1981 smallframe 100cc model

about to get it started.. have figured out gas ratio - 2%

but does it need a battery to start?

and would it be 6v or 12v?

Have searched internet and somewhere it said that later 100sport models may have been 12volt - how do I tell?

Double check your VIN (does it start with V9B1T) and look here:

if you've got spark, it'll run. You might not have lights or a horn, but it'll run.

+1 all your battery does is run your electronics. Horn and turn signals...

its ALIVE!!! had a date last night so didn't pour the gas in until midnight lol

then its leaking gas everywhere haha i've got a little flashlight trying to find where..

but fawk it... gave her a kick and second kick she fired

drove around a bit but it kept stalling, gas pouring everywhere ...

got flashlight poked around.. it was the fuel tap at bottom of tank, just needed 2 screws on 'switch' (reserve on / off) part tightented hehe

then cruised soem more! first time I have ever driven a vespa...

so yeah.. what kind of 12v battery do i need? hehe
