Michelin's new Kennecott City Grip:



Okay, almost. It is one of six tires their ore haulers move on. Each runs about $25,000 and lasts about nine months. So, what are we complaining about?

Now you get an idea how big one of their ore haulers is.


And now you see that they have even bigger haulers, like the one in the top right of the picture.

Finally, you may now understand why I wanted to take a picture of my GTS in front of one of those giants. Unfortunately, they don't allow PTW on their grounds, and even if they did, I could not have gotten even close to their monsters. These pictures were taken with a 300mm lens!

Not bad for a second wedding anniversary trip, huh? Puts things nicely into perspective on how much room we still have to grow

Those things are brilliant.

My father use to work for a mining company and he'd have to go out to the mine in NV a few times a year. He said those big haulers were awe-inspiring up close.

As you mentioned they go through those huge tires in less than a year. My father told me they also go through regular pickup trucks in the same time span. The ground, work, and overall environment is so intense a standard F150 basically completely fails within 12 months.

I never got a chance to go to the mine, one of those few things we both wish we made happen before he left the company.
