Not complaining here, but I took out me 2007 GTS 250ie for a 60 mile trip (one way) Saturday to Iowa City. I did not take Interstate (too many semis) but took two-lane highways. I used about a full gallon of gas and was not quite there yet. I did NOT do the math entirely, but I think that means was getting less than 60 miles per gallon, and maybe more like 55 miles per gallon. I don't ride the Vespa so much for the gas mileage, but was wondering if anyone else has experience mileage this low. I was probably averaging anywhere from 50 mph to 65 mph on the roads, and had no passenger or substantial gear on board. I have a shorty windshield, so factor that in. Is mileage usually better or worse on highways????

Check your tire pressure, if they're low that could account for a drop in fuel mileage - 26 front, 29 rear. If you're carrying a passenger or lot of weight, bump up the rear by 2-8 lbs depending on the load. Also, if you had a lot of headwinds or if you were riding wide open, each of those will decrease your mileage considerably.
Also, keep in mind that from one fill to the next, the exact amount of gas in the tank will vary depending on when the pump shuts off. And since we're dealing with such small quantities in the first place, it's difficult to accurately gauge mileage by one fill up alone. Try tracking your mileage over multiple fill ups, for example by using fuelly.com. The more fill ups you track, the better an idea you'll get what your actual fuel consumption is. |

I fill mine to the bottom of the filler neck every time I fill up and calculate my mileage each time. I consistently get 69-71 mpg. My wife does the same with her GTS and gets 74-76 mpg. We ride together so we're riding at the same speed and route each time so the difference is that I weigh 225 and she weighs 130. Both scooters have large windshields that are cut down so we can see just over the top and we're usually riding between 45-60 mph on rural roads.

My GTS with mid-sized windscreen, topcase and saddlebags averages 71 mpg. I consistently fill it to the bottom of the filler neck. Most riding is local errands and shopping, 40-45 mph, with occasional trips into town at 55-60.

MPG
Usually get about 60 mpg at 65 mph (gps), maybe 65mpg if I'm lucky. Have the tall Vespa screen cut down so I can just see over the top of it.

I had three fill ups in a row where I was getting 74, then it dropped to about 68 for a few fill ups.
Although this isn't a huge drop off in mileage, I'm just wonder if the high temps here in Phoenix (say 105 plus during fill up time) is affecting the amount of fuel in my tank. Is there a density change that come this kind of heat, or maybe a little bit of fuel is evaporating for the short time the cap is off during fill up??? Or maybe I'm just driving more aggresively to get home as fast as I can to get outta the heat ??? Of course my fuelly embed says that I'm getting 72. Go figure. And I'm on gts twofitty, not threehundy. |

I get about 33 km per litre, Mostly highway to work,
My work is roughly about 25 km's away, Maybe a bit less. That's roughly 50 km's a day, 250 km's a week, I usually average about $10. (Canadian$) a week for gas. Still cheaper than public transit. |

How you ride has a lot to do with your fuel economy.
When I use my GT-200 for my commute I get in the 70's, when I hoon the gt-200 on the twisty roads near me I get more like 40.. Mana when I am in semi-auto can get me 60mpg on my commute, when I am in touring I get more like 47mpg. All are better than the not stock R1 in the garage. At the track it will suck down a tank of gas in tick over 19 min. |

I consistently get 78 mpg, best was 82, worst I think 70. My riding is also very consistent. The typical tank of gas will have me in stop and go urban traffic, suburban and a little bit of freeway. I rarely take a highway only ie 55-65 mph trip, but when I did (to a rallies last year) I think I averaged about 74mpg.

My commute is 62 miles roundtrip. I do this 4 days a week. I fill up every other day. My best mileage has been 75.6 mpg, worst was 68.4. Today it was 72.6 mpg. I travel on 2 lane roads with some stop and go.

During the winter months, if I can ride, my mileage gets really lousy too, like 71-72mpg. Sucks!
Can't wait then to get into summer again, to see numbers starting with an 8 or even close to a 9 ![]() |
