Hi all,

my lovely GTS250ie is about to go in for it's 30,000km service & I've been offered a Malossi variator although I had been swaying between the Polini 9 roller or the sliders... any suggestion of what each offers & which could possibly give the best & most reliable performance for a daily commuter as well as weekend joy rider?

How about keeping it stock instead? Never change a winning horse...

+1

If you want both reliability and more performance, buy a bigger scooter.

it wouldn't be too risky to give sliders a try, and a clutch upgrade

The Polinin 9 eats rollers. Go for sliders if you must do anything. 11g or 12g - my choice would be 12. They hardly well and improve throttle response.

I agree on the sliders. They don't really change the mechanics of the CVT, they just slide quicker and smoother than the round rollers or the same diameter. Meaning they are less likely to eat belts or grind CVT cases.

Minimal cost, low risk, nice performance enhancement, and good value.

The Dr Pulley sliders will make not a jot of difference to the reliablity.

Neither will a polini variator. It will just need more frequent roller replacement than stock, and if you don't the worst consequence is rattling.
