They don't really change the mechanics of the CVT, they just slide quicker and smoother than the round rollers or the same diameter. Meaning they are less likely to eat belts or grind CVT cases. Minimal cost, low risk, nice performance enhancement, and good value.

Neither will a polini variator. It will just need more frequent roller replacement than stock, and if you don't the worst consequence is rattling.
