We are leaving for a coast to coast trip on Monday Aug 9. We have dubbed the trip P2P for the start and end points of Portland (Oregon) 2 Portland (Maine).

I must confess that the inspiration for this trip came from the Cannonball Run 2010. The route we have chosen follows much of the same route as the CBR. For the most part...we are not stopping in the same towns as the CBR.

My wife (with some encouragement from me) was talked into doing this partly because:

1. She did not want me racing across the country with a bunch of other "crazed scooter nutz" (sorry Bagel)
2. She did not want me to borrow her scoot for the trip (she has a GTS250 and I normally ride a BV500 which is outside of the rules for the CBR)

We have attracted a number of additional riders to our cause. We are members of Oregon Scooter Club and once word got out that Karen and I were doing this, we had a number of people ask "can we go too???? PLEEEASSEEE?" We now have 7 riders.

Scooter prep. Much has been said about this on this bbs, but each prep has its own wrinkles. In our case, we are camping coast to coast. That means quite a bit more stuff to bring along. It was critical to me that the bikes all ride well despite the about of gear we were taking along. If you look at the pictures below, you can see that we ended up with a pretty tidy setup.

I'll try to get an MV ride report up tomorrow. Really fried tonight. We are in Helena MT with two riding days in the rearview mirror.
Looks like I'm gonna have to figure out how to change the map picture in my signature area again.

I have setup a Facebook page for those who would like to keep in touch with the riders.

My wife's GTS all suited up for the trip. Tent is on the front rack. Topcase only has very light stuff in it. Suitcase is a Tourmaster seat
mounted bag, medium size. We really like this bag.

My BV500 all suited up. Note GPS on the left handlebar, Suite case is a Tourmaster Seat mounted bag, medium height. Sleeping bag on top. One side case contains the air mattress and pump. Other side case contains food and pan kit.

"Fair winds and following seas! (er... make that smooth pavement)"

Your packing arrangement looks very practical. You'll get tired of removing the seat bag every time you have to fill up, but there really isn't any viable alternative.

No emergency fuel?

I'm envious. Portland, Maine is a fine place and so is Portland, Oregon. The trip between is just something you'll have to put up with.

Damn.

Someday I am going to make that trip.

Ride Safe and have fun!

To toast the end of your trip in Portland, ME, go to The Shipyard Brewing Company or Allagash Brewing Co for a Brewery Tour and a Beer!

Cheers,

Five of us are shipping and flying back. Two lucky ones are taking the scenic way home.

I am green with envy. I so want to do a loooong trip like yours. The price of having needy pets at home

All the best, many good experiences, and no rain!

One request, if I may: detailed pictures and info of the other scooters, packed up. Thank you!

We have needy pets. Get a house sitter!

The others in our group are all riding Burgmans. They all have a huge underseat trunk and canvas saddlebags. I'll take a pic and post tomorrow. We're in the middle of nowhere South Dakota in a campground right now.

Our pets think WE are the needy ones....we probably miss them more than they us! LOL.

I can relate though....it makes it hard (and extra costly) to leave them behind for extended periods.

Met the P2P crew at breakfast in Portland this morning. They looked happy and amazingly well rested. Sounds like they had a great time.
