So, my wife and I (and our 0 year old) are going to British Columbia for our 5th anniversary in September. Thought I would see if anyone has any "must see/do" type activites/restaurants they would like to share? Thanks!

Two restaurants we really like in Vancouver -

- Blue Water in Yaletown (try the "Weekend in May" cocktail)

- Kettle of Fish at Pacific and Burrard

Fun to wander around on Grenville Island and the Aquarium in Stanley Park is endlessly fascinating.

Scuba diving off of Quadra island. The later you can do this in the year, the better.

1. Stanley Park

2. Victoria

Take the BC super ferry from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, and have the buffet. Fantastic view and great food.

While there, see Buchert Gardens and the old Government House gardens.

I've never seen a buffet on a ferry... It may have been on the ill fated 'FastCat ferries' that were bought for hundreds of millions and then sold about 3 years years later for less than scrap due to reliability problems... All BC ferries now have 'White Spot' based food services which, as a semi regular rider, I try to avoid. As a disgruntled tax payer I digress. Try 'High Tea' at the Empress in Victoria for some Colonial charm. Check out the world's tallest Totem Pole at Beacon Hill Park.

If not venturing on to Vancouver Island, Stanley Park is a treat. Unparalleled views of downtown and the North Shore. There is also historic Gas Town in downtown Vancouver... I haven't been down there is a lot of years but it's pretty funky with the world famous Steam Clock, cobblestone streets and stores with lots of Canadiana for sale.

You might want to head up to Whistler and poke around one of North America's premier ski resort towns.

The Sunshine Coast is beautiful as well. A couple of short, small ferry rides brings you into an veritable cornucopia of artists etc. You might even catch a glimpse of Joni Mitchell.

Beach Drive in White Rock is always entertaining. Have lunch on a patio and watch all the people having lunch on a patio so they can be seen having lunch on a patio ... Good food a views do abound though. Ice cream, souvenirs etc. Pretty 'touristy' but cool. I try and ride by once a week or so just to steal looks away from the V-Twin/Chopper crowd. Everyone loves a Vespa!

There is a buffet, but it is only on the Vancouver/Victoria run on the 2 "Spirit" class vessels.

Its called the Pacific Buffet.

I've only had breakfast but it is quite good so I imagine the other meals would be about the same.

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks for clearing that up. I've never been on the new ferries on the Victoria run. 95% of my crossings are Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. I assumed (obviously incorrectly) that all the Spirit boats would be serving the same fare....

Take a 1.5 hour drive up to Whistler on the Sea to Sky highway, beautiful views of Howe Sound and snow-capped mountains. You can take the gondola to the top all year round. Take the Peak 2 Peak gondola from Whistler to Blackcomb Mtn.

Vancouver is a great city. I went there for the first time in May to run the Marathon. There were 2 places that I would suggest.

The 5th Century Ming Chinese Garden was very cool, but you have to take the tour to understand.

I'm a breakfast lover and this was probably the best breakfast I've had in years.

September weather is still quite nice. Normal highs of about 70-75 and lows in the 50's.

The only snow will be at the top of the higher coast mountains.

Cheers,
Dan
