whadda think? If the Ferarri mechanic/certified Vespa restorer says it's ok then...
they do have a copy of the original Arizona title.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/2235287308.html

This clean, vintage scooter has been parked for the last three years at my mechanic's shop. He has gone through the entire vehicle and has repaired and adjusted everything accordingly, including new brakes.

Everything works fine. It needs nothing.

The rebuilt engine has 999 kilometers on it.

I have a copy of the original Arizona title from 1968, which shows it costs 400.00 in those days. The vin numbers on the original title do in fact match the vin numbers on the scooter and the California title.

Although the scooter is documented Italian, there certainly are some after-market parts on it, like the trim and the new odometer. So the vehicle is not completely original. I don't believe in lying or trying to deceive anyone. People have complained about the restoration job, using after- market parts. I did not do the restoration job, nor do I know the exact whereabouts of this vehicle for the last 40 years. I have had this scooter in my possesion for the last three years and like I said, my mechanic who is a certified vespas mechanic as well as a restorer of vintage ferraris has inspected everything.

Clean title. Starts on first kick.

I hate to see it go, But I am making a documentary film in Italy. Priced to sell.

ciao,

actually that one is not so suspect. only the two tone paint.

i cant tell much detail on the front dampener area, but it looks correct to me. and if i could do a test drive first, then $2k is fair.

senario 1
twin seats(the rear sat on a stainless mount)
bolt through the panel side bars
nasty legshield trim
chrome tailpipe exdender
its a bodge

saying that at £1250 uk its a fair price for a complete scooter

but i would want to check the bodywork with a magnet to asses the amont of filler that it has in it

senario 2
its genuine and his mechanic has used import parts and trim to restore
so at £1250 uk its a fair price because i would want to re-restore

either way not badly priced

every once in a while, a B series (bodgey P series) will pop up, usually on ebay. They're usually LML vespas "restored" and painted a single solid color, but nothing close to a stock color. Neon Green or Banana Yellow, or something like that.

Also, another thing that doesn't get brought up much, anytime someone is selling a "Ferari" edition or a "Porche" edition, it's a bodge. Painting some pile of garbage red and slapping a enamel badge on it doesn't mean it's of Italian Pedigree.

So what were the problems with it, besides the locked engine?

I am now the official defender of bodges on this site

he links to this page:

I'm new to this, and things I can spot right away:

- purple
- chrome buddy seat frame
- "Vespa" embossed front link cover
- crazy chrome accessories everywhere
- no logo on speedometer
- chrome gas cap
- black rubber parts
- chrome legshield trim runs ALL THE WAY
- spare tire cover?
- new 10" LML engine

can you link to that?

this guy is going by the name Mark Hickling and lives in Kirkland Washington

when I called asking to come see the scooter he wouldn't tell me where he lives... but I found out via his domain name.

would it be messed up to publish his address? is there anything the authorities can do if he's selling bodges?

do-it-yourself bodge kit? these photos are from the purple vespa above... looks like all the parts needed to turn a junk scooter into a nicer looking scooter, but all of the parts are bodgy!

he says it has 10" wheels, but clearly there are 8" wheels in the photo here... also yellow boots, plastic center mat, "vespa" embossed link cover

doubt it, that's in Florida, this is in Kirkland Washington

the guy is now clearing things up after I threatened to give out his info as a bodge dealer-

his son got it from a Vietnam Vespa dealer a few years ago and "never rode it"

he (the father) never personally restored it

this may be BS but it makes more sense than "I restored this using bodgey accessories"

Can I get the expert's opinion on this scooter? What are the tell tale sign's on this scoot I'm missing, if any?

http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/2286093237.html

The photos are dark, but they also included a you-tube video in the post as well

I hope I found my new ride!!!!

Thanks in advance

looks great to me. but you got to know that the engine was racing when he pushed in the choke. that means an engine rebuild. if you understand that can run ya another big bill, then ya jump on this.

Vintage Vespas Restored
I havent had a chance to go through all the posts but I found this site a couple of weeks ago that almost fooled me. I'm a bit new to the vespa world and fell in love with the Classic Style Vespa's when I was researching them and looking to purchase my first scoot. Luckely I continued to research and I didnt want to settle for "bodge". I ended up with an 05 px150 as my introduction to Vespas. 8)

This thread needs edited.

Current FOB Saigon price for a VietBodge as of late March '011:

$1900 BIN on Ebay. They seem to have sorted the candy two tone w/ matching seats. The one I looked at was a fetching monochrome beige and...

NO YELLOW BOOTS!!! Laughing emoticon

We used to have a joke about the little rubber bit with the line and the arrow as seen on the sidestand of '80s Hondas. Ask anyone what it's for, they'll generally tell you, "I don't know." Well, the secret is that when you wear the rubber bit down to the line it's time to throw the bike out. Perhaps the same holds true for yellow boots?!

Hidden costs: Around $450 U.S. for row-row, literally "The Slow Boat From China." Then they say another $180 in fees when it gets here, that's if the ATF doesn't X-ray the crate. Golly, why would the ATF want to X-ray the crate?!

I'm gonna stick to home grown barn finds, thank you very much! Although I do think five port motors and ten inch wheels are painfully cool...

These have cropped up at a local car dealership.
They don't have all the signs of a bodge, but neither do they look right, especially the handlebar bike. A couple more photos to follow

Love that pillion. Obviously the dude's girlfriend is... erm... rather large.

I wouldn't mind owning a handlebar Vespa even if it was fake. It's just that I'm not too keen on the idea of spendin' $4k on a FrankenScoot when I can bodge one myself for much less. Time to check Uncle Joe's stash for handlebar headset parts.

The part that bothers me is the whole "guilty until proven innocent" attitude.

If it's titles you want I guess I'm screwed. Titles "sunset" after ten years here. That means I can go to New York or New Jersey where the bureaucrats clench their asses so tight they can barely walk... and buy bikes without paperwork. Not a problem. All the stuff I buy has obviously been in a barn or a basement for decades, either that or they have gently marinated out in the weather.

Pics to follow on my "Greetings!" thread.

This is a 1967 Vespa VBC 150. It has been well maintained and is in excellent running condition. It has a really sharp paint job and I have yet to see another one in the same colors. As you can see, this is a more rare model that has the headlight on the front fender.

This guy has been trying to sell this bodge for several months now. Started at $3000, now he's down to $1300. It has all the hallmarks of an Asian bodge, down to the bondo cracking. on the mudguard and legshield.

From his ad:

"I lowered the price on this because while still in nice condition, this scooter is not original . I had received some replies from a few scooter enthusiast informing me of this."

I'm sure he was informed of more than what he is admitting to!!!!!
