Love it!
"1965 VINTAGE VESPA GS 150 IN MINT CONDITION.AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTO'S THE SCOOTER IS WHAT I SAY IT IS MINT........THERE IS ONLY 191 MILES ON THE CLOCK,I HAVE OWNED IT FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS AND IT HAS BEEN WELL LOOKED AFTER" 191 miles in five years? I can do that in an afternoon... "Features include: - Turning signals - White wall tyres" Features include: A motor Some wheels A place to sit ![]() Which is like the red one that was spammed all over Craigslist. It was everywhere and now I can't find it. It had "loud horn smooth running blah, blah, blah." There ought to be a law. No two tone paint... you can't unload it off the boat. Monochrome paint jobs are now illegal on imports. It must have two tone paint, matching upholstery, a winged Piaggio badge, the early headset and a headlight on the fender. ![]() |

could be like most people that buy bodge scooters. didn't know what he was getting. it was probably bought to be a piece of jewelry and rarely used. the scooter scene is fairly small in ireland. any time a genuine classic is up for sale you will know the seller or you will know someone who does.

On another note... let's try this thread as a regular post instead of a sticky for awhile. If we start getting a shit-ton of new b0dge threads we can put it back as a sticky. But, like the "Deal of the Day" post, we can still use it when we need it...

still figuring things out
I'm going through the thread and please correct me if I'm wrong. A bodged Vespa or scooter is one that has been slapped together and presented as something it definitely is not. A custom has been something modified to an aesthetic level that maybe is beautiful in the eye of the beholder. What do you call a Vespa that parts were added out of cost necessity to have a street legal vehicle.
I would hate to think I have a bodged Vespa and my first ride I'll run into some of you with tomatoes to throw. All written in good humor and curiousity ⚠️ Last edited by langelah on UTC; edited 1 time

My current daily rider Super isn't particularly pretty, the paint is coming off in places and its got some dings and scratches. It rattles a bit, and isn't wearing 100% correct parts (Its got a VBB tail light for example). But its mechanically sound, and a good rider. Thats the difference from a bodge, you never know what's under the shiny paint on a bodge. |

Are you saying that you think your 1974 Rally 200 is a bodj? Probably not, the year and model are not what Vietnamese scammers have to work with. Does you bike have autolube, or a USA tail light? Plenty of legint '74 Rallys in the States, never seen a foreign bodge (well, just Euro) of that model and year.

I was at first but thanks to this thread I'm more than convinced it's not. I bought it from a very trust worthy person and it's in need of work, no shiny chrome bits or these "yellow boots" everyone is referencing. Not sure how to find out if it has autolube or a USA tail light. The light is about the newest thing on the bike. ![]() |

That's not a USA tail light, but the much prettier correct Euro one. But that's a very normal thing for people to switch out, and I see this bike has been at least partially painted.

I can fully understand why you believe this specimen to be bogus. It is a work of art, carefully crafted to capture every nuance of vietbodgery. Note the trapezoidal headlight, the wings sprouting from the Vespa badge, the yellow boots, the meticulously color-coordinated upholstery and the glistening expanses of chrome bling. This is the artist/restorer's homage to the oft-vilified products of Southeast Asian craftsmanship, and a subtle dig at those pedants who deprecate this genre.[/quote] Horrors! This should have been the model for the descriptions of the two specimens presently shown in the For Sale section. Will they disappear or remain as a shining example of artistic expression? |

this looks suspicious!
Stripped and totally rebuilt. All new custom paint in a Flying tigers theme. New wiring, rubber, tires, Super exhaust, MR2 mirrors, Corsa racing seat, insignia, floor rails, etc.
Original engine rebuilt, new 20/20 carb, upgraded cylinder, running on synthetic oil. Has original 8" wheels. Sharp, reliable, cool. I run it on premium gas -- gets 60-70 mpg -- and high quality synthetic oils. Rebuilt, original engine runs fast and strong -- easy to start. Collector plates so no tabs required ever again! Body and cowls in perfect condition New tires and tubes, new leg-shield trim. No leaks. Lights, horn, AND speedo all work. Straight body -- no wobbles. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcy/2397506328.html ![]() |

Then there's this: It's a virtual rip of Nammer eBay text: " Rebuilt, original engine runs fast and strong -- easy to start. " From eBay / Nammer FOB Saigon: "Easy starting. The engine runs smooth and strong, like brand new." Hmmm... The final nail in the coffin: I don't care what it is, I'm not gonna pay $4200 for it. Not gonna and you can't make me! Going rate for a Nammer, direct from 'Nam: $2200, ships free to Port Newark. It would be interesting to see what additional fees pile up. "Free" ain't free anymore doncha know?! |
