Restored in Germany? Maybe the ad has been edited, but I couldn't find that. In fact seller doesn't say where this 'frame off' restoration w/ all new highest quality parts installed took place. I see an ad w/ a guy trying so hard not to tell a straight up lie but not shy about pointing out special features. Like only 50 miles on "new' motor in a restored scooter with only 300 miles on it.

Facepalm emoticon

A wild guess: he bought it & imported it from VN excited and full of hope. Then only 250 miles on restored motor w/ all the best stuff and it broke. Then off to eBay to buy a 'new' LML motor. Then the newest SIP pipe to finally go as fast as he expected originally. Now he's done, the money's gone and the dream has died .

I did email the dude about the wheels but didn't I didn't question on other clues as I wanted to get a response.

Said he bought from a German guy and he had it restored in germany. He could be telling the truth and not know the german guy may not have been honest. You guys are correct that it's not in the ad on Craigslist.

Thanks for the info on the LML engine. I don't know much about them.

That just means they're still making this same model.

That thing is classic bodge, right down to the P center mat (but not a P brake pedal. Go figure).

Best part is that the paint work isn't even any good. Look at that picture of the wings. Tons of orange peel on that puppy.

That's a substandard bodge if it has orange peel! What's the world coming too? 😁

This one has made it 7 miles. Still on 8" but with all the snazzy trim and phillips head screws. A good layer of filler on the louvers. Can't make out the color of the boots.

Start at 14 minutes if you want to see how bad it can be. Dude estimated 8 layers of paint & bondo on the bike, and it only gets worse from there.

Yeah, it pretty much falls off a cliff once all the paint and filler is removed. I don't know which direction the guy is going to go in now, but if it where mine, I would just hang it up high in the shop. Then point to it anytime some one drops by and talks about picking up a bodge to restore.

He has a Part 3 where he is replacing the bad panels, i.e. most of them, with replacements. I haven't watched it yet, but will be interested to see how it works out for him.

Everyone considering to buy a SEA "restored" scooter should see this video and witness the defeat in the eyes of that poor lad.

Restoring something that is really rusty and in bad shape is hard enough. Restoring something rusty that someone has bodged is so much harder.

Just skimmed the ep.3

He has hopes to fit a Burgman 400 engine into that frame. My guess is that this trainwreck of a project will be silently buried and never be seen or heard of again.

I tend to agree, but also have no idea what this guy's background skillset is. At best, he'll probably learn there are both engineering and aesthetic reasons why all the projects like his are lammies rather than Vespas.

Some people take on projects like this for pure sport. We might be doing the same if examples in better condition weren't easily available.

I'll be the first to admit that I come pretty close to it. If a project doesn't have expectations for new lessons, it gets a lot less interesting to me. Hence, for example, Lammies.

I have taken some deeper dives into welding and metal fabrication as parts of bigger projects. There definitely has to be a learning element and pushing the skill set for it to be interesting. There is always grunt work. Never again a whole car.

And we just never know. I heard first hand from a proven reliable source about a project nearly as far fetched as a Burgman 600 motor in a patched up pieced together frame designed for maybe 8 or 10 hp and a much lighter motor.

A collaboration w/ apparently some money, experienced skill sets, lots of crazy and all the newest latest best pieces to build a 50+ hp motor to make it go, but the frame needs more help or might just fold Wha? emoticon . So they've started w/ TWO good frames carefully cutting up one to reinforce the other, target is a frame you can't really know without inspecting close up and weighs nearly twice what it used to with.most panels doubled up and other hidden enhancements.

Great story and certainly doable, possible it will work as planned or maybe I was a good audience for just a tall tale told to another well known tuner. At least I was entertained like we are watching some of these uTubes, but live w/ just 2 guys expert words and my imagination.

I think his plan is to use the Burgman frame and then build the Vespa body onto it, sort've like the 4t Stellas.

It'll be interesting to see where it winds up. I'm rooting for him.

I've seen wonderful work come out of England, In America its hens teeth, a good friend is a judge at pebble beach for Jaguars, and he restores them. I used to buy all the scoots he didn't want. One in particular I'll track down someday if it still exists.

Well, the person was pretty honest about what it was. They weren't under any illusions that it was a genuine Italian Vespa of decent quality and they had even noted that it was refurbed in Vietnam. But it was pretty bodgerific.
