Hey, here is some weird stuff I saw in Singapore last week.
Looks like PX frames w/crazy mods. Questionable as they may be, I might put these more in the 'custom' category since they're not being flogged endlessly to unsuspecting consumers (as far as I know). Just including them here for interest and general weirdness spotting... I never got a chance to talk to any riders, although there are a heckofa lot of 2-strokes of all types in Singapore. Maybe someone local will stop by to give us the lowdown on this particular phenom... |

![]() This is a bodge that belongs to a friend of a friend. Its latest of many issues, broken shifter. It also has some suspect rust concentrated around the welds on the floorboard where its welded to the tunnel. |

my guess there is a lot of cultural crossover between France and SE asia. I grew up in the Netherlands, and there was a ton of Indonesian immigrants there, and there were a lot dutch people living in indo.
just a guess it's the same way with france and vietnam? come to think of it, i've been to several restaurants specializing in Cambodian/French food. |

1972 Vespa VBC
I've been interested in getting an older vespa or one of the new stella 4t for a little while now. Originally I was thinking a p200 but I found this a 72 VBC... I'm new to vespa, so I don't know much about vbc's and they're reliability. I actually believe the seller posted it on modern vespa almost a year ago so I'm assuming this legit but I know absolutely nothing about identifying any fakes.
Any info would be awesome!! Thanks! Here's some photos: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I would be suspect, white rubbers, incorrect headset, 10" wheels, two tone paint, keys hanging from carry hook, trim around fuel tank and cowl door , rear mudflap.

Here's some photos: "I am selling a beautiful Purple/White 1972 Vespa VBC which has been completely restored. The bike is in great condition. All functions are working. Many of the parts are bright new. The engine runs very nice an it also shifts gear very smoothly. I purchased this bike a while back, spend time to restore her and now i want to sell her. California title. Its the perfect weather to drive this beauty around. $2599. Serious buyers only please. Call or email me if you want to come see the bike, make a test drive or if you want to see more pictures. 408-8937736 Thanks for looking!" This whole forum makes me so nervous about buying anything used! I'll probably just go with a new Stella 4t... Unless it's safer to buy an older Vespa from a dealer? A reputable shop here in sac has one from the 60's that doesn't look anything like these bad bikes. -Jess |

If you're unsure of what you're getting into and don't have any friends to come look t scoots and steer you right, buying from a reputable dealer might be the way to go.
The Stella 4T is great but you're paying for a new scooter. If you want a cheaper, older scoot, look for later Ps and PXs, which aren't bodged nearly as often as Supers, VB's and some others. You're still going to getting a used scoot from an individual with all the history, uncertainty and potential issues. That might be a good thing if that's what you're hoping to get into! |

Hello everybody!
Another Vespa noob is asking whether or not a scooter has any tell-tale signs of bodgulism! Dosen't have any of the incriminating two-tone paint or yellow feet, but i still think a more trained eye should take a look. The pics aren't of great quality, but hey. http://annarbor.craigslist.org/mcy/2467097284.html thanks! |

Its a Px125 with a 177 top end. Not a bodge, and the p-series haven't really been "restored and imported" from Vietnam.

OK cool. I don't know much about this stuff yet, but like many others, i'm scared of bodges enough to be suspicious of just about everything. XD

I believe that the tractor style tail light is a dead giveaway that it is an American market bike. Some models are prone to bodgity and a P isn't among them.

Found this thread and wanted to join in the fun.
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/mcy/2416955981.html 1967 PIAGGIO VESPA VBC SCOOTER 150cc / 4 Speeds / 12 Volt Battery & Electrical System- This is a very nicely rebuilt vintage scooter ! This scooter has been totally rebuilt, repainted, and reupholstered. We have less than 100 miles on it ! Perfect ideal transportation for local commute or cruise to the beach, ( about 80 mpg ) Drive this classic scooter from the 60s and have the comfort and reliability of a new one. Joe 651-238-7151 ![]() I may be wrong (and correct me if I am), but the year, the trapezoid headlamp, the "12 Volt Battery & Electrical System," the bling, the low mileage and the white seats are kinda telling me... ![]() By the way, for those who are wanting to buy a vintage Vespa but are unsure of what to look for, I suggest looking up "Vespa: Style In Motion" by Davide Mazzanti. It's loaded with detailed info and photographs on Vespas from 1946-2003 as well as Piaggio history. Every once in a while I'd check it out from my library, then pester the librarian to buy it from them. No luck yet. Still, a great read, and worth having out when looking at a vintage scoot in person and debating on whether it's legit or a bodge. Here's some info about the book on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Vespa-Davide-Mazzanti/dp/0811842487 |

To sell such an ugly bodge is bad enough but to claim it has some military history is pushing the limit!
