Posted: 2013-07-19, 8:19PM PDT Vintage 1950 Vespa 125 - $2850 (OC) I have a c.1950 Vespa Piaggio 125 for sale. Its in good condition, it does sometimes start, it needs carb. change & tune up. It ran 3-4 months ago, and was drivable. This is an antique, and is in need of some minor help to run well. It has some really rare pieces, book rack, hub caps, and other stuff that goes with it. I have a rebuild able motor that I can sell you, it is also circa 1950. It does run/shifts through all the gears, has new tires, extra chrome wheels, lots of extras, and some really rare parts/pieces. Please call my cell at 714-267-9300, ask for Peter. This is one of the oldest Vespa's in the United States of America, and really belongs in a motorcycle museum. The Vespa did have some work done to it, as far as some very minor metal work in the engine bay, and the motor was redone in the mid 1970's from what I gathered from the previous owner. The vin number is hard to decipher the second and 3rd letter, but the main serial number is 43962, the first letters aren't as critical anyway. So what I found out was that the records show that the Vespa was made between 1948-1950. go to www.scooterhelp.com, click on Vespa icon, click serial numbers, and this is a 1950 125cc., so on the very first set of prefix numbers, which is V1T - V15T, just type in the serial number, which is 43962, and you get the actual year of manufacture. So please call for an appt., I will not allow any test drives, Im sure you understand why, if you don't Im really sorry. I only accept cash, the United States version. Have a really great day, thank you for looking. PS. I WILL DELETE ANY, AND ALL EMAILS NOT ACCOMPANIED WITH A PHONE NUMBER, AND THIS IS A LOCAL PICK UP ONLY. I WILL NOT SHIP, OR HAVE YOUR PEOPLE SHIP, AND WILL ONLY ACCEPT U.S. CURRENCY, NO CHECKS CERTIFIED OR BANK TYPE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE IN THIS, I WAS RECENTLY RIPPED OFF BY AN OUT OF STATE/ COUNTRY A.H., ( and that doesn't stand for Austin Healy, if you know what I mean! ) Thank you for looking folks. Have a very pleasant day, Cheers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just joined this board because I am new to the scooter world and am scared of buying a "bodged" scoot. Hopefully I can post some of the ads I'm seeing and you all can tell me if you think they are legit. Thanks in advance.
Here's the first: http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/mcy/3860833185.html Completely restored 1960 Vespa. New engine with less than 400 miles. All new. Excellent condition. Must See. ![]() |

Here is another I am interested in. The ad says it is not a Vietnam import, but I see a couple of red flags (but I am new to spotting so maybe I am wrong): The driver's seat has a handle, and the passenger seat has the chrome around it. Plus the rack - what I think you guys call the "BBQ Rack".
Also the front tire.. Just wondering...if I see these things on scoots, does it most likely mean it is a bodge job, or can it be that the owner just liked that look and made it that way? http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/mcy/3952073680.html Great condition apart from the front fender, kicks over first sometines second time. Regiseterd in California and not a Vietnam import. ![]() |

That green Sprint has a trap headset. I believe the only bikes ever imported to the US that had those were GLs. The 70s bikes all came with the same headsets. The round ones you see on US Rallys.
That doesn't necessarily mean its not a US bike; it could be a restoration where someone found/liked a trap headset, or the stray import of a euro model That one in SB look like a loving restoration of a nice round-tail early VNB/VBB. It's very stock and minimal except the legshield trim, which looks like Cuppini (the red plastic and crest). Those would have come from a US or Euro scooter shop/catalog. A good sign. Jimmy B has good advice. I'd recommend taking the Sprint to Bar Italia if you like it to get their opinion, but at that price range, you could find an immaculate bike like the barn find Sprint, or a complete restorable rare model. Or a PX with 50 miles on it. Or this one: which is gorgeous, and priced high enough that the seller has had it for a while (and you could talk them down) http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mcy/3906909417.html |

Hi,
It looks like one of the most reputable bike shop in Melbourne is now selling a bodge. I like to think that he got done and is not aware of what he is actually selling. http://www.bikesales.com.au/dealer/details/vespa-vlb-sprint-150-1967-15306234?__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Price_Decimal%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Model_String%7c0&__N=1432%201429%201428%204294967090 ![]() |
