The reason I asked about the price was to determine how much you are willing to spend on a bike. For $2,500 you could very well get a classic that could be a daily rider for you. It may not look as new as a modern but if you're looking for the classic look of something that's still reliable you could definitely find one within your price range.
I have been looking at scoot.net for things in my area. I am interested in a 169 150 super that looks pretty interesting. I have also been looking at newer Stellas and Vespas i found on craigslist. It's hard to know what's going to be a headache and what is a good deal. What is your opinion on a 2005 Stella? i'll post a pic of the one I found on scoot.net it's in Portland OR.
1969 Vespa 150 Super. Kind of rough looking (missing some trim bits) but starts easily and runs decently. It is an Oregon bike, not an asian import like many Supers you see. Had it since 2004. The engine was rebuilt by P-Town Scooters in Portland OR, and

Wonder if they bought it and replaced the engine after it crapped out with the LML? There is no ignition switch by the choke lever. But yeah, everything else screams RUN.

I wonder if scooters like this are common in the wild in VN, or if they are only for export?

I go to Vn at least one time a year. I admit I have 2 PX150e's and a '62 VBB that I bought and keep there. I have no choice if I want to ride and tour in Vn and rest of Asia. The paperwork and taxes to get anything shipped over to Vn would be a killer. I would never bring them here b/c I have twice as much into those as I do in any I have here. While I am on my soapbox, I am the first one to call out Bodges. They are not a good scooter, even if they are not pieced together. Why pay what they want when you can find practically new 30-40 year old scooters here for under $2500? Makes not sense. Add to that it costs a fortune to buy quality parts because of the taxes.

Anyway, it is not the back alley shop in Vn that is shipping these things over. There are somewhat decent Vespa's in Vn but they sell for a fortune...because they are rare and hard to find. Most are priced outside the Vn person's budget. The person to blame for the Bodges are the people who buy 3-6 of them for $750-800 and ship them over here trying to pass them off as originals. They are the crooks and thieves. Like the above auto dealer who knows it is an import and does not openly admit so.

I have placed dozens of ads on CL and Scoot.net trying to warn potential buyers when I find a Bodge. I fell it is everyone's responsibility to call them out.

May anyone who does not represent what they have accurately have a bad day.

Join a scooter club and learn from the members. They will welcome you and help you find something that suits your driving skills and your skills to maintain. Don't buy first and question later. If you really want a shifty, buy a '05 PX150 to start and go from there.

Restoration was done in Vietnam and imported by a reputable dealer in Massachusetts.

Only taking calls! No texts or emails. Too much SPAM on this ad for some reason.

That was posted ad.Looks like there coming from Mass too.
Bravo to the seller, at least they disclose it is from Vn and not trying to pass it off as something else. Boo on saying it is a restoration....another sore point. Very few scooters are a true restoration...rebuild, respray, customized maybe but rarely a restoration.

VBB is an early 60's model that replaced the VBA. Both are very representative of the "curvy" Vespa style that existed prior to the mid-60's models, which were slightly more angular (see the 150 Super, the Sprint, and the 180 Super Sport for examples of this style change).

More information about the model can be found here: http://www.scooterlounge.com/vespa/buyers-guide/vespa-vbb.shtml

I started a Facebook Nammer page a couple of nights ago based on the info on here.
Stickied a quote made on here by momp945.
A lot of photos on here I've transferred over.
Amazing the number of folks who are not aware of Nammers.
I'd heard of them & seen a few examples but this NMS Nammer thread pretty much sums it all up . . . so I've blagged a lot of images off here . . .

What's with the little curves for the centerstand's feet? Is the centerstand supposed to be that skinny? My p200 stand looks to be at least twice as thick.

I sent Pacific Coast Cycles an nice email suggesting he have a reputable Vespa mechanic look at the scoot before they try and sell it. Wonder what he will say? If I get a reply, I will post it.

Here is an ad I try to keep active in a few markets on CL. I get flagged often, but keep posting b/c I have gotten some really nice emails from people wanting to buy a Vespa and not knowing what to look for. I encourage others to copy or make a similar ad and post in their cities.

My add never makes it a week without being flagged for removal. Someone writes multiple emails claiming my ad is slander.

What is going on here?
What happens when some poor soul gets an original non-bodgy & decides that single seats, chrome and 10" wheels are th way to go, as they keep seeing nice shiny scoots like that... Then spend $6k on a full "make it into a bodge" resto?

I pity th fool!

May not be your taste but its what the bodges are trying to imitate.
