Re VBBs being bodges...anyone notice how the majority of them seem to be 1965 and 1966? What's that all about?

I find it amusing how so many of them are equipped with handlebars and fender lights from models some 10 years older.
i believe that's when Vespa had a factory over there in Vietnam. they also produced another model or 2.

and the pieces of 10 year older bikes is because they were bought from the local dealer at the time but none of them ever got tossed. they were just "left laying around"

if you dont consider old broken parts and pieces as trash, then its not much of a leap to producing a bodge.

That figgers. Using trashed (free?) parts to increase the perceived value is a win win for bodgeristas.

By the way, "Bodgerista" is my trademarked word made from combing several words...just the way they "restore" scooters!

i bet if you ran the VIN (if you can find one) on one of these shit-boxes, you'd find that it's not either of those years. I think they get branded as that era because it's desireable to potential buyers. Same thing with sprints. Why are they all 67's? Because what noob would want a 70's vespa when they could have a 60's vespa.

Scooterworks vintage bikes
Does anybody happen to know where Scooterworks gets their VBB's and VBC's from? I have a VBC from them, purchased in 2008, and it has been a great bike. But it has a lot of the attributes you describe here: 10" wheels on an 8" wheeled bike, thick paint, LML powertrain, cheap vinyl seats, etc. Just curious.
External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
I had the seats recovered in deer tan leather at Pirate Upholstery in Kingston, NY this year.

Everything works the way it should on the bike and I am very happy with it. There are a few cosmetic blemishes developing, but they are inconspicuous to the casual observer.

That's too funny. "All original" but then says it has a new LML engine.

Plus the performance muffler makes go 70-80MPH.

ScooterWorks bikes
Thanks for the info. My bike has a new LML non-injected "Stella" engine. Starts first kick most of the time. My biggest gripe was the quality of the vinyl on the seats...got caught in a huge rainstorm before the Rockerbox ride last year...wore the vinyl off in spots just riding in to the show. Looked like a sunburn that is peeling. Over the winter researched many seat reupholsterers and settled on Pirate Upholstery. I am very pleased with the quality of his work and his pricing was very reasonable. I have over 1800 km on the bike now and no issues. Thanks again.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. If you are ever thinking about getting seats re-done, check out Pirate Upholstery's website, www.pirateupholstery.com. Not only do they do great work, they stand by their quoted price too...a rare thing these days. This is not meant to be a blatant commercial for them. I am just a very satisfied customer. Oh, almost forgot....my scoot won "Best Scooter" award at the "Viva Lake Geneva" rally last month....

Would you mind if I asked what the cost was to have your seats done with Pirate? I have the vintage version of your seats and need to have them recovered soon. Just wanted to have a ballpark before I contact them. You can PM mate

it's badged wrong. it shouldn't have those script badges on the cowls. They've also welded over the turnsignal holes (to sum, this is a plus). I'm not a P expert, so I can't give it the thumbs up or down, that's just what I noticed.

Looks like a great bike. If you can, get it checked out by a vintage scooter mechanic. Just a quick look, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Of course, that's if the price is right for you. Only you know whether that's the case here.

thank you mate...it looked right to me too...but due to lack of experience I needed to check it with the "experts"...what about the price range for a vespa like that...???

Looks like it had a decent paint job, but the exhaust is terrible.
With that money you can find a more recent PX disc model with less miles and more value at the resale market.
Looks good but only a mechanic can (after inspection) tell you the truth about it.
I wouldnt pay 1700 for a paint job and a muffler.

Try finding a cheap one and restore it yourslef, itll be more fun and less expense.

Stop Wait

I just talked to a friend of mine.
If this Vespa had no turn signals when it went off the factory, then this is one of the early P's a 76-77model and this model was around for only one year, since after that, regulations demanded every vespa to comply to US street legal laws.

So it could worth some extra money and the price could be justified for European standards.

Since you are located in Greece you have PM!

I am selling a beautiful Purple/White 1972 Vespa VBC which has been completely restored. The bike is in great condition. All functions are working. Many of the parts are bright new. The engine runs very nice an it also shifts gear very smoothly. I purchased this bike a while back, spend time to restore her and now i want to sell her. California title.

Its the perfect weather to drive this beauty around.

$2499. Serious buyers only please.

Call or email me if you want to come see the bike, make a test drive or if you want to see more pictures.

408-8937736

Thanks for looking!

You think? Perhaps VEZPA's "frankenbike" is a better term than custom - aside from the seat and centerstand (which are arguably just custom to taste) it's got wrong color rubbers, funky two tone, wrong badges, the kickstart is totally f-ed, and something is way funky about that front wheel/fender relationship.

Even if it isn't Asian, I'd stay away from that bike and look for something 1) more original or 2) if custom, more clearly professionally custom (as this one shows signs it isn't put together right even at the engine).

You could be right, but that element of Vietnamese flashiness seemed to be missing. My take is, bad taste, yes. Vietbodge, I dunno.

i beg to differ. Why would a "collector" have 6 of the same bike, in non-original colors, all with bodgey chrome? If it's a nice house, it's probably because some rich guy got suckered into "investing" in a bodge shop. Either that, or it's the nicest house, on the nicest block in saigon.

Wrong.

This is a well-known Viet importer. Not only that, but it's quite plain to see that these are typical East Asian bodges.

Typical Asian chrome crashbars and fender trim, white/brown/grey seats with matching spare tire cover, non-OG colours, incorrect grips...and there is 6 identically-restored scoots. Obviously mass-"restored" bodges.
