Is a VietBodge originally "made in Italy" , ie initially manufactured or assembled in Italy, then exported.... Or was the frame etc punched in Viet?
I have been chatting with this seller of a "genueen bodge" & they have asked the question.

Sorry, I use an iPad so cannot work out how to post a photo.

Re the photo. I have an Ipad also . When you see a photo on ebay or craigslist , just press your finger on it and SAVE IMAGE will come up. Press that and it will save to your camera roll. Then after you copy and paste the link you can also Add the attachment photo by pressing CHOOSE FILE below. Hope that is clear.

Can you guys help me. Please.
As you can see from my location I'm in the land of Bodge.
Can someone give me some tips or spot any Bodge on this 57 VL3T.?
It has a 64 engine and runs very nice and it has been restored at some point.
I have limited time to either let it go or snap it up.

What to look out for?? Thanks in advance.

First off, this bike didn't exist in 1978. The headset is from the post 85 era, as well as the fork. The horn cast is wrong. The glove box is the larger type as well. Maybe a beat up stella?

<My first question is how can you fit an engine from 64 in a VL3T frame? If I'm not mistaken, all handlebar bikes are widemount frames that wouldn't take a standard largframe swingarm.

But, if it's a fake., it looks on the surface to be a competent one.

Ha haaa... Almost had me looking on phone..

BTW.. *I do think that guy is from where he says he is and bought a bike from Planet Vethpa.. live and learn..
Some people dig that stuff..
Remember the guy from Miami? He purposly went through a lot of trouble and spent some $$$ trying to make his (for girlfriend? If IRC) look like a super-bodge.. Differnt Strokes I suppose.

*if it was an "advertisement" for Planet Wespa then it didn't work wery well. www

Since I'm here.. I thought for a while that we'd seen signs that they were reading and getting wise to the whole anti-bodge sentiment within' the community and trying to turn out less pffensive bodges... But by the looks of the honkers they're pushing, I think maybe that's not the case.. There is apparently still a big market hungry for the two-tone seats and stainless trim packages.

Personlly, I like the double gloveboxes. I think they're an essential feature if you want to carry all the tools and spare parts you'd need to fix the various things that might break on one of those things at any given time.

I don't think just two gloveboxes will do, where are you going to fit the extra engine?

I use the tools to build it up out of old beer cans and cardboard I find in the nearest trash can.

There was a long FB thread a month or two ago, the guy (or a guy) from Planet Vespa was trying to defend his products. He said they had a 100% feedback score on ebay. He tried to defend the website which apparently has had the same photos up for years. He also said the three (I think) complaints that they have had was when they outsourced some work to a local business that didn't do the work as well as they were supposed to.

Someone suggested that he give the "scooter community" (we are talking Aus. here) ten names out of his 'many' happy customers to have a look at the scooter and judge the workmanship/safety etc.
He agreed and came up with one guy - turned out the guy had done less than 100k's since buying it about 2 years previously. Not because of breakdown, just because the guy said he never got around to it.
It was also suggested they show a couple of scooters at the National Rally so everyone could have a look, I'm not sure if he responded to that.

The funny thing is, he seemed genuinely surprised at the anti-Viet scooter feeling in that FB group (Australian Scooterists - Classic Riders).

Anyway I don't think the other nine happy owners eventuated.

For it to get any bodgier, it would have to come from PlanetVespa.

The rattle can yellow flywheel is a nice touch, though. Much better than yellow boots, IMHO. Gives it character, so when the new owner is cursing at it while broken down on the side of the road, he can yell clever things like, "Goddamn you, you f'ing yellow-flywheel'ed bastard!"

That's okay, since you wont actually be riding a bodge. It'll just sit there and look garish.

For definitions of "new" that include two-tone paint, extra glove-boxes, and loads of random cheap chrome.

I was going to buy this 1984 Special 50 as I was first in line, but worried that it was a bodge and now I'm regretting it.
Thoughts?
I'm just too new to Vespas to know quality from not.
It had been updated to a 75cc. Was import from Italy.
Second person in line bought it

must be a repaint (not "originale" paint), and a crazy price, but what's bodgey about it? I don't know much about handlebars, but it looks a real one to my untrained eye.
