ummm... handlebars like that didn't exist on a '56 (right?). Maybe not a bodge just an enthusiastic rebuild? |

The GS 150 had a headset like that in '56, but it had a bench seat not saddle, plus the cheap looking chrome exhaust, possible legshield trim along the floor boards, and chrome rear brake pedal make me think bodge, though very subtle.

(money well spent) The old girl is going that good that makes me sick in the stomach thinking of touching it. Ah yes!! the blue think!? that is a bodgeliscius mint 1957 faro basso. What's wrong don't you recognize vintage junk. The scary part is that you can ride this one at 55 mph all day................ or until you die. AHAHAH!!! |

vancouver - I don't think that's a bodge
I don't think the Vancouver scoot is a bodge. Looks like an 150 VB-1 to me.

It does not make any difference as vb1 have been delivered to Vietnam, a lot of them as "acma" french company making Vespas under licence or could be Indonesian making it a true Vespa (from Pontedera). here is a link to prove my point. http://xn--thuxecchpnh-pbb7300h5tash.vn/?page=newsDetail&id=457730&site=11742 Thank you |

Sorry Greasy -
I didn't actually mean to state that all scoots in orange county are bodges, I was just referring to the one the Lisa was looking at in the add. It for sure has issues I believe. |

Lisantica... I guess you are looking for your first scoot?
If so "deal of the day" is likely to have a better option than "bodgespotting". If you are looking, let us know what you want, & im sure we can offfer advice. |

a buddy bought this recently here in key west.
i think i posted this a while ago when it was for sale around here for like 3500 or so. he paid 900 for it. its from planet vespa. he has all the import records and such. good title.etc. he wants to ride it, i looked at it and it has obvious bodgery. question is........ is it safe? it feels solid. runs ok, clutch needs adjustment right now. should he strip it apart to look for bad welds, etc. it doesnt seem to flex in the floor or anything. i wouldnt want it but for 900, what is he to do with it? run it around til it falls apart after taking all the chrome crap off of it? i guess a yard planter isnt out of the question... ![]() |

Safe? Probably would be as it should break down in the next 15 minutes, maybe en route from the garage to the street.

Death is certain for either the scoot, the rider or both. At the least it should be gone through by someone knowledgeable that might look at it. Most reputable shops or mechanics won't

so a full rebuild/ go through is in order.
is it worth it? as far as frame, i figure a dis assembly, to check the structure and find any issues. the motor... should he just ride and keep fingers crossed? or just go ahead and split the cases and see if anything has been welded together/etc. more bodgery. its gonna cost +/- $2000 to rebuild it right IMHO. new hardware, gaskets, seals, bearings, etc. I know i had 1000 in rebuilding my smallframe in such parts. there would be no sense in throwing good money after bad since there are good running scooters here in florida for +/- 2000$ but on the other hand, he owns it now so we have to come up with a plan to move forward or to call the scrappers. |

Motor - is it an LML moto or Nam caveman special? At least if its a LML then there is some relief that it hasnt had caveman rebuild. If those 2 checkout its probably OK to ride as is or off a cliff. |

The guy with the bodge
From almogavar1969: Doesnt need to take apart to inspect frame...
__________________________________ Thanks jsunstar for helping me get some feedback on here. I feel like I'm at an AA meeting standing up in front of everyone and admitting I have a problem. And frankly after seeing people get shredded on these forums I was hesitant to post at all. I am not a bodge apologist or a Nam shill. I'm just a guy with a bike I need to figure out what to do with. I only spent $900 so I don't want to throw a lot of money into this. If I can determine the frame is solid, I'll use the bike. Anyway thanks again for the advice on checking out the frame. That's what I needed. I don't know the terms LML or Nam Caveman, but I did check the motor VIN number at scooterhelp.com and it came back as the right model. ![]() |

You can make anything safe and reliable, maybe even fast. Just that starting from where you are right now it's going to take you a lot more time, money and patience. And whatever you put into it, it will still be a Nammer.
Here's a mate of mine's blog dealing with the purchase from Planet Vespa over a few years. http://71sprintveloce.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/welcome.html Here is what an original Piaggio engine number looks like... yours is not original. Not a bad thing in itself, just another example of the bodger's toolbox. ![]() |

No - those are not piaggio stamped cases. Post a pic of the whole engine.
LML is Lohia Machinery Limited. That's the company in India that makes the Stella. The stella is based on the Px150 they made under ice de for piaggio and after agreement ended they continued making under LML star, Stella, belladonna etc. not always the best motors / but a new crate motor better than a Vietnamese backstreet Franken motor. The reference to caveman is the types of repairs and builds done in Vietnam are something a caveman might have done. |
