I think that some of the bodge bikes coming out of Asia are cosmetically GORGEOUS. Super gorgeous actually. The two tone paint with matching seats and all the chrome and white walls...absolutely spectacular in my eyes. Some of those builders have the cosmetics nailed.

Too bad the bikes are jerry rigged down to every last bolt.

Running for cover as I press "submit"
Me three, but on these German 'bodges'. Possibly even mechanically sound, you know those clever & obsessive Germans. Which is funny, considering the source of the phrase "jerry rigged".
I'm pretty sure it's "jury rigged". I always thought it derived from law courts until I just found out that it derives from sailing. Language is odd.

Language is odd and it seems both terms are used, with a slight difference in meaning.
More here and also info on 'jerry built'

Maybe jerry built would fit sketchy scooters from Germany best Nerd emoticon

There you have it. It sure is, however, unfair to all the scooter restorers out there named Jerry. I'd say 'bodge' really is the best. I can see shades of butcher, dodgy, and hodgepodge in that word.

but other than the 12 pak glove box & volcano speedo, what are you guys seeing? Those say Bajaj rather than Bodge. Maybe just a poor akward Bajaj looking odd on eights w/ a 10" centerstand at a silly high price because it's wrongly labeled as a Vespa?
Yep. Bajaj.

Hard to tell the age. Bajaj made a modified Super/Sprint well into the 80s (maybe even 90s).

They imported a lot of them to California in 1980-81. They had 10" wheels and were badged Chetak.

This one has Piaggio badges. lol.

I thought just possibly could it be just a high end, expensive Italian restoration in an unusual color w/ some bad 'period' trim for trendy ppl?

Nope. Shame on you, DKG

The handcrafted speedo resize plate, fender crest, and wooden legshield trim are a nice touch.

It's missing the oil tank.

if i had to guess... someone resurrected a dead bike with no knowledge parts are still available?

still. looks like an US bike. The crafty wooden replacement for the plastic fuel lever give it away.

Will Vietnam ever run out of 60's Vespas? I mean, only so many were originally sold there, right? There has to be a finite number left to bodge up and export. Will they eventually just use a tiny scrap piece of frame, build the rest from Indian parts, and call it "Vespa"?

I always wondered how they chromed just the collar at the top of the fork tube. I had visions of the frame hanging upside down, barely immersed in the plating tank and how hard that would be to do for so little 'benefit'. Doh...
Left hanging...
Shudder!

Doing the VSB fork lock I did just flip the headset back... it's not the same as a VNB/VBB/GS150, but I definitely did not struggle lifting it off. It looks like they made the cutout on the bodge fork with an angry rodent. And the fork bearing lock ring looked like it had outlived about thirty bikes. 15:35, "That's flush". Ha!
