You can forget that one for sure.. even if it wasn't a bodge (which it looks like it is... the price would still be way too high!

Your instincts are good. "Unregistered and never used" doesn't mean "original and unrestored". That scoot has been repainted, parts have been swapped and added (wheels, legshield glovebox, seat), and a lot of shiny chrome stuff has been tacked on. It's very different from any Super that would have left the factory.

Bodge in Santa Fe NM
"I finished rebuilding it this winter... in Vietnam!" Looks like this one got flagged out of existence already, as did my warning post...

http://santafe.craigslist.org/mcy/5223113905.html

Hello everyone,

Up for grabs is a fully restored, beautiful Italian 1965 Vespa 150cc scooter. A true vintage work of functional art. For those who know what this scooter is you most likely already know everything about it, for those who do not:
It is a 150cc two stroke engine, 4 speed manual transmission, 2 seater, with storage compartments, cargo/grocery racks, spare tire, etc. that was an iconic Italian scooter that is impossible not to fall in love with. It is as romantic as it is cool and unique and an absolute pleasure just to look at let alone ride.

This was a labor of love to put together and I finished rebuilding it this winter. It has fresh paint, a new engine, and so forth. Runs great. I travel considerably for work and as such I rarely have time to use it so I'm putting it up for sale with the hopes that someone who understands and appreciates what this scooter is and what it represents will give it the love and use it deserves. These are very rare and not some cheap chinese or japanese mass produced modern scooter.

The odometer has 9 miles on it, this is fairly common when restoring these scooters as you have to source new odometers to replace the original unit which is usually so old they don't function and can't be rebuilt. You'll see these lower miles on these old vintage scooters, I am positive it has seen more then 9 miles in it's lifetime, just want to make sure everyone is on the same page.

For more information, additional pictures, or to see it please feel free to contact me via phone, text, or email at 505-690-199five.

Thanks so much.

Wow
http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/mcy/5276873993.html

Can't say I have ever seen anything like this before. Seller admits its from Vietnam, and that it is a project, but wow. It is cheap though.

I might be wrong, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that that engine is not original! Smallie motor, smallie fork, unidentified large frame frame. All the good Vietnamese accessories. A true one in a million find.

Vespa scooter 50cc 1966 - $500
"Not quite a basket case but kinda close to it. We blew the motor a couple of years ago and I replaced the head with a 70cc upgrade. It's all in and working but for adjustments to the carburetor fitting to the motor. This scooter was imported from Viet Nam and is a little funky but has been fun to ride. It's a project scooter. It has not been started for two years and I don't expect to start it for sale but we can always try. I have extra parts (mostly cables) and some documentation.

I just want to stress this is a project scooter even though it's pretty close to ready it's still going to need some loven.

make me an offer."

wow. I have never seen a large frame Vespa modified to run a small frame engine... and fork?

For $500, it could be sculpture. It's a franken-bike. The 50 engine wouldn't be much fun, even if it was safe to ride... and it's almost certainly not worth rebuilding.

Possibly started out as a legit 1970's PGO or Danmotor smallframe with removable cowls. Do homework. Yes, it's got some traditional 'nammer goodies, but there are "foreign market" bikes out there you know nothing about.

Not trying to defend the machine, but you have to admit, if a bodge, it's pretty damn creative. I'd like to know more.

Listing was pulled...

I think you are onto something. A bit of searching turned up this thread, about a similar find.

Got me stumped

You are right, it probably is some sort of small frame. As far as my homework goes, one previous thread on this site, with no apparent consensus, was all I found. There are apparently foreign bikes i know nothing about. If anyone has more info, please share! I too would like to know more, and I'm probably not the only one.

And if it is a smallie engine in a largeframe, yeah, that is pretty impressive. Lots of work went into that.

Either way, its interesting and different. Not gonna have two of those on the same block on this side of the world. I wouldn't trust it as is, cause it definitely is bodgy, but gone through and cleaned up it would probably be worth it as a conversation piece at least.

Edit:
Some more half-assed searching turned up this

Not sure if this is a bargain or a bodge... What do the more experienced experts think? What is it? It's very cheap for where I live:

The price is right. The indicators can be a bit of a bodge feature though down our way. It's 175cc That's a bit different....I'd ask them how long ago it was imported and see what they say! you could be a winner.

It doesn't look that old. Has disc brakes and the newer speedo. Also all the other badges and so on look consistent. It's also registered which is s good sign. I reckon under the bling is a px 200

In the background of the pictures it has the auction site he bought it on and you can look it up and see that he paid $2550 and is trying to bodge-flip and make $3650. Sad.

What model vespa is this?

Our beloved collectors edition 1971 Vintage Red Vespa is up for sale.

It is manual and has only been ridden 3x to transport to the showroom but has been on display since and in good condition. May require minor works such as oil change and major tune up apart from that good as new.

Suited for a collector or a vespa enthusiast.

$3,500k ONO.

Looks like a PX with an earlier trapezoid headset fitted.
