Bodge or not?
As listed on Craigslist:
Quote: UN-RESTORED VINTAGE 1960 PIAGGIO VESPA VBB 150 SCOOTER ONLY 168 KM!!! - $7500 For sale an original rust free, never restored, in running condition collectable classic vintage california 1960 piaggio vespa vbb 150 scooter with only 168 kilometers (100 miles) on it. The serial number stamped in the frame is vbb1t144476 and the serial number in engine is vbb2m159438. The california registration is current and good until 2/13/2017. Comes with clean california title which proves the odometer reading beeing accurate and correct. In the title this is marked as 1960, but after running the serial numbers in the piaggio vespa data base it tells me that this is a 1962 model. From serial number 71001 and up the cowls had aluminum trims like this one which proves it as well. This is a possibility to own a piece of italian vespa history from 55 years ago. This is a 'barn find" in excellent original condition. How many original classic vintage collectable piaggio vespa's with these original kilometers/mileage have you seen around still? I am have being trying to describe as thorough as possible this vespa, but for the rest, i let you to be the judge since there are about 100 detailed pictures taken where you can see the condition yourself. Here's the link: Http://s1103.photobucket.com/user/karottinen/library/1960%20piaggio%20vespa%20150 I have also a video to be sent where you can see and hear the vespa running. I encourage you to come and inspect the vespa, if possible, in person. This vespa has been owned by 2 separate older couples in it's whole life time in california. First couple bought it new, and had it until spring 2014, the second couple had it from spring 2014 until now. The reason why it has such low kilometers/mileage is because the ladies who wanted to drive the vespa around in both ownerships felt it was too big/high for them to drive and could'nt reach the instruments and ground. It has been sitting almost all of it's lifetime in the garage. In its present condition, the scooter is in every-day driving condition. Mechanically it is solid and sound, everything works as it should. All the parts in the vespa are original as it came out of factory. There's only one exception to originality which is of course the battery since we are talking about 55 year old vespa. Though it is new, it is just like the original 6v b39-6 battery, with the old look. It comes with all the keys (ignition, steering lock, side compartment). Has as well the original tools with pouch and the original license plate frame. Also has the factory installed spare tire with the cover. Though the vespa is in running condition i would recommend, if you're planning to use it as-is, to make a service and maybe needed small adjustments and tune up for fuel system, because before my start this was running last time over a year ago and it is after all 55 years old. There's few things that i noticed and would like to mention as well as point out: - the front wheel fender has a small scratch in the right front corner (see the picture) - the rear engine cover has small scratches in the two different spots (see the pictures) - the front wheel has some surface rust spots on it (see the pictures) - the front wheel shock has some surface rust/pitting on it (see the picture) - the leg stand has pitting on it (see the picture) The vespa is sold as-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I wasn't there at the time, but I'm pretty sure they didn't come out of the factory like that back in the 60s

This is what I can see but maybe I'm wrong. It has a fender crest. Terrible paint job with fan cover, lock and handlebar bolt painted white. Clutch and Brake levers are wrong. Brake light is wrong Dummy tank emblem don't look correct. Seat is wrong. Exhaust is wrong. Floor is not right. Looks like paint over rust. Handlebar switches are wrong. Hand grips are wrong. ...and the list goes on. Good luck! |
