Wow I can't believe it.... So while out riding today I got a solid nod from one Harley rider, and then the left hand low wave from another Harley rider. Now this is Milwaukee. Home of the harley. They hardly glance my way most times, and I'm usually left nodding or waving to the air. Just thought I'd share that.

I wave at Vespas when I'm on my Harley. I'll keep an eye out for a Daring Plum (or is that black?) with crash bars.

A shared love of two wheel m/c's, scooters and even trikes are the norm in my part of the world.
Go back to Seattle and it's all about sticking to the party line. Harley's with Harley's, Japanese cruisers with the like, cafe racers with similar. Glad you got the respect! |

I was riding my Piaggio MP3 in Duluth, MN, and was looking for the Piaggio dealer in the area. I could not find it at the time, and pulled into the parking lot of Lakes 10 since it was a convenient place to stop and look at the address I wrote down. It turns out I did not go up the road far enough, but while stopped, a Harley couple came over from the Harley dealership right next door to look at my scooter.
Over the time I have had my MP3 I have had several such encounters with what might be considered hardcore Harley owners. Each time they look at it trying to figure out just how it works. |

I'm glad you got the wave. 8) For us "oldsters" on here i think anything to do about the wave would definitely be in the top 5 of the most repeated threads. I wave and 99% of the time i get a wave back. Even if i'm on the ATV toolin down the road i wave and get it back It's the people on scooters that don't wave However the vast majority are kids or tourists who haven't a clue what the wave is.

M2 i think it's fun to see new people get all excited about things even if a lot of us have seen it a million times. 8) Just trying to explain why you were getting some of the responses. Keep them coming and enjoy that scooter of yours.

Waving people
We've had a number of fatalities in our area this season-- including a van that pulled out in front of 3 tandem Harley riders causing 5 fatalities. The daughter, sole survivor, is banged up pretty well, and has lost her fiance, mother, and stepfather in the accident + another couple. The community came together for fund raisers and especially riders of all kinds.
I rode past the church where the Memorial was held the afternoon it was held and was surprised by seeing 50-60 (minimum) chrome ponies parked in a lower lot. Point: The motorcycle community has really pulled together with concern and appreciation for each other-- including is scooter riders. We are reminded of how much we take for granted and how easily things could happen in a split second. If there's a silver lining in all of it, it's that it has caused an uprising of warm concern for each other! Point 2: I had my first road rage incident a week ago from a rude driver... and it unleashed a shameless outburst of anger from me which hasn't happened in years. Only when I threatened to call 911 did she leave. So 4-wheelers aren't necessarily feeling the love! |
