A couple of weeks ago, I'd finally had it with the GTS 250 fuel pump's unpredictable behavior. I called up the dealership, recited the symptoms and requested that they call me when a replacement pump came in. When I got word that the part had arrived, I called Piaggio's emergency service number (the scooter is still on warranty) and they sent a big flatbed truck to make the pickup. Fortunately, the driver had plenty of experience with 2-wheeled vehicles, and the Vespa arrived at the dealership with no mishaps. This morning, I picked up my Vespa, all fixed, and rode it home. The only off note was, I received a call from the towing company, requesting $49.50. Although Piaggio will cover the first $100 in towing fees, apparently the 66 miles that the wrecker traveled down here and back was not completely covered by the Piaggio warranty.

Other manufacturers hit the same problems - Honda with the Africa Twin and KTM with the 950/990 Adventure (can't remember which, off hand) are two that I remember reading about.
The same aftermarket fuel pump is now being used for both, I think - a Facet, IIRC. I wonder if there is one from that manufacturer that matches the required flow characteristics etc for the scoots? If so, it may help the out of warranty folks |

Did you sign any paperwork that said if any of the fees aren't paid you are in the end responsible? You might just want to eat the $$ and pay it or send Piaggio USA the bill for the rest demanding reimbursement. Either way your scooter is fixed. |

I think I have the same problem with my Beverly 250, at 250km it failed the first time, went to the dealer and they remapped it, after a few km's it failed again and now it's in the dealer again to fix the problem. I am not sure it is the fuel pump but by the symptoms that's what it seems.
I bought the bike because I thought it was a reliable brand but now I'm not so sure. |

I took my 2009 GTS250 in for an oil change/checkup yesterday and left it overnight with the dealer. This morning they called and told me that the fuel pump was under a recall and they were going to replace it. I didn't get the impression that it was going to cost me anything.
Maybe the manufacturer is paying attention. |

On Oct 16th the wife's 300 GTS fuel pump went out. Oct 30 hauled it to the dealer 500 mile round trip. Its been sitting there since then waiting on a new pump.
Called dealer this morning, no new pump yet. Asked about the recall, was told "not they know of". Asked since its been down for 30 days will Vespa extend the warranty, "no Vespa will not do that". This is getting old, Andy |

This is getting old, Andy If they are waiting on a fuel pump - tell him he can pull the one out of my 300 (it only has 8 miles on it) - I am awaiting funds to finish its reassembly after painting it and would just as soon see someone else riding if at all possible in the meantime. I am in no hurry so could wait 'til December before I grab it. Good luck, Desi B. |

If you get tired of holding your breath here you can find a pump and install it yourself, should only take an hour or so

Just bought a GTS300, 2011. The fuel injection light has been coming on and off at random. Only 100 miles on it. Let's hope it doesn't crap out before I can get it back in the shop.
Update, my issue was not related to my fuel pump. The light had something to do with the key being programmed in. ⚠️ Last edited by 2StrokeJamoke on UTC; edited 1 time

Fuel Pump?
Does an LX 150 with a carb. have a fuel pump or is it gravity fuel flow?
Just wondering because I have never had any problem whatsoever with Piaggio products. Defendo |

Defendo were ok but I'd put some grease on the brake cables(where the cable attaches to the lever) becaUse my rear brake failed a few weeks ago.

GTS fuel pump
I had to get mine replaced in the summer of 2009. At that time, it was a seemingly common problem, but not something that was acknowledged by Piaggio despite the fact that the warehouse was out of fuel pumps. I ended paying for the replacement myself. After having revisited this thread today, I called my local dealer, who said they weren't aware of any recalls on the pump. I called Sutton Marine who said that yes there was. Then I called Piaggio who also told me that there wasn't 'an official recall' made on the fuel pump. My GTS is a 2006 and I don't know if this problem was resolved with later models, but if there is any doubt as to any condition with your scooter, it may be wise to take advantage of the warranty while you have it. Just wanted to give you my latest update in the pursuit of an answer.

i finally filled out the NHTSA complaint form online. It is very quick - surprising for a government website.

And I didn't, and won't be, filling out a NHTSA complaint. My dealer contacted me concerning my '09 MP3 earlier this summer. I brought it in when he had a replacement pump available, and the replacement was done the same day with no cost to me. He also checked and found that the VIN on my GTS was not on the recall (upgrade) list. Seems like a pretty stand-up move by Piaggio and good follow through by my dealer.

my dealer took care of the problem promptly also - but it is still a safety issue that should be reported. I never received any notice of any kind from anybody about the defect.

My wrench (vespa/bmw dealer) ordered a fuel pump last week for my '07 GTS, any estimates on how long it would take to get one to Phoenix?
The shop said about 2 weeks (gulp), does this sound reasonable? |
