Modern Vespa

Ok, after many months of admiring other riders and driving around the vespa dealer and drooling in the window, I finally got to buy my own vespa. I am in love with my brand new LXV150ie, espresso color. Minus the rattling coming out of the headlight and minus the fuel gauge giving me false readings, something the dealer promised to fix, I am in love with it.

Welcome to the board. I'm glad you love your new LXV. I got mine a few weeks ago and I am madly in love. I have the same fuel gauge issues too. I was told it would work itself out - uncertain if it will but I'm not going to worry about getting it fixed until the weather turns too cold to drive. I was also told that you can trust the fuel light but it's not that accurate either. It read empty but it only took 1.3 gallons so it was really at half full. I fill it when the light comes on and record miles and fill ups on fuelly.com. I have no idea how many mpg I get but right now all I care about is the great time I'm having. Enjoy and be safe!

If your dealer can fix that, he is a genius who will have a long line of MV members demanding his services.

That right there is the best reason to ride a scooter. Gas mileage be-damned, just have fun!

Not to hijack the thread, but tonight I had hella fun! My husband and I scooted around downtown tonight and got (literal) high fives at three stop lights by people crossing in the walk. Now that's cool!

All mechanical misfires aside, riding a Vespa, experiencing the world on two wheels, is nothing short of magical.

Welcome to the forum. It will help muddle through those mechanical frustrations and also provide a vicarious Vespa experience for those moments you can't be on the scooter.

So far my biggest adventure on the lxv was driving it to work last week. I live in Jersey City, NJ and work just across the hudson river in midtown Manhattan. It is the coolest way to get to work. Once I crossed the holland tunnel (the tunnel being the the worse part of the ride) and on my way to midtown I saw half a dozen scooters, we all honked and sometimes talked at the light. I feel welcomed.
Now, does anyone else here cross the hudson tunnels? It is pretty toxic down there. Do you get used to it? I crossed on a hot humid and heavy traffic day and felt like i was going to pass out.

It's not toxic enough to cause harm; there are high powered ventilation fans to exchange air but being behind a deisel bus or truck is not pleasant. It can be hot though. Last week, during a group ride through the Holland Tunnel, the thermometer on my GTS read 109 degrees; my wife's GTS had the identical reading. I suggest you check out the New York Scooter Forum (www.nyscooterclub.com/forum/) and stop by at their regular Wednesday night meet-up.

Jersey! Sweet, I was born/raised in JC too; live in LA now, but my brother is still out there and he rides his Vespa all the time to the City. Think the tunnels just take some getting used to. Too bad you can't split lanes to get out of there quicker tho...
