A buddy of mine is considering this Carburetor " upgrade" from SIP.

Has anybody ever seen this setup installed? I can't quite figure it out.

I've installed a lot of those. If it not a kitted bike don't bother. What part can't you figure out?

yeah if your bike is a stock 150 the inlet is only 20mm anyway p200 is 24 unless you open it up but on a stock bike that won't do anything

Paul, is always kitting his scoots.

Myself being only familiar with the usual Vespa Delarto style carb setup, I can't figure exactly how this thing mounts. I'm not installing one. Just curious mostly. Although, this does look more like every other carb in the world, compared to the Delarto, I can't figure how it mounts the vespa.

There doesn't seem to be any sort of air filter, that I can see. Does the bellows just go strait from the frame to the carb? is the bellows optional with a filter on? Obviously the oil metering device is history, right.

I'm just curious to see an example what it looks like mounted, and what advantage it may offer, other than "more standard type".

I'm not interested in any performance upgrades just yet, I'm still learning the stock setup.

Like I said, just curious more than anything.

This is for a reed valve set up. It would offer no advantage whatsoever to a stock scooter.

The 1/4 pipe thing sits over top of the reed block. The small donut black piece connects that part to one side of the carb, then the carb, then the bellows runs to the normal frame hole in the scooter.

There is no filter.

It looks like this but instead of a filter on the carb, the rubber bellow goes there and attaches to the body. The one your friend is looking at is NOT the reed valve one.

You're right. I looked at it wrongly and too early. It does do away with the metering so it is for pre-mix and recommended for a tuned motor though. Overkill for a stock cylinder set up.

So with the bellows on it runs without a filter?

Obviously a setup for the guys who like to crack the cases on a regular basis.

Why would you say that? I run no filters on my RD350 on both carbs, and no filter on my P-racer with a 35mm Mikuni D slide...

never had any issues associated with it other than cleaning up some blow-back from time to time.

i was using a filter for a awile but it chokes out my rich ass carb. it runs like a top filterless and ive got over 1500 miles on it since i installed the carb and the only thing i had to crack the cases for were gear related. before i had this setup i had a 24/24 with no filter. never had a problem i guess if i rode around on the beach it might be a problem but ive never swallowed anything in my carb mouth.
