I have to take the scoot to the vespa dealer tomorrow. I can either take the interstate which has a speed limit of 70, or I can take the smaller highways that run near the interstate that have a speed limit of 55. It is about a 120 mile drive via interstate, a bit longer on the smaller roads. Which way should I go? Does it hurt the scoot to drive 65 to 70 (if I can get it to go 70) for an extended period of time - say over an hour? Would it be better to go 55 - 60 for an hour? I have a 250 and don't want to harm something if maintaining a high speed for a long length of time does that. Any suggestions?

Either is fine as far as the scoot is concerned - just do the route you are most comfortable with. Personally the the back roads tend to be almost as fast for an overall journey, far less stressful, and hugely more fun.

Agree with Jim's assessment, on all counts.

Thanks. I agree, interstates are boring. I wanted to make sure that running it at a constant speed didn't hurt anything. The only reason I considered the interstate is because it has been over 100 degrees here and I thought maybe if I got there faster, it would be better. But, I am planning on leaving around 8 in the morning, so maybe it wont be too hot yet. Sounds like back roads!

The bike can cope with whatever - it's the rider to whom you have to give consideration.

back roads are better for stopping and having a drink of water and taking a break. be sure to carry at least 2-3 bottles of water with you and ensure you drink them on the way there. and get some more there for the trip home.
